Shock!

Happy Saturday everyone! :)

I've recently posted in another thread about a positive change in my health conditions I sense as coming, which has however not occurred yet (and objectively may not occur at all).

In the meantime, there has been another change - and not a positive one. I asked the Yi why this change has happened and got 51 unchanging in response.

From Hilary:

Shock is something that stirs, rouses and shakes you up – like an earthquake, or a violent thunderstorm. In ancient China, Heaven spoke through thunder, and this was an omen that the human world was to be brought back into harmony.

Shock means new beginnings.

So, a "thunderstorm" is taking place in my body - but, as Tsung Hwa Jou says in his book, the thunder "can be clearly heard but cannot be seen". I'm receiving some signs (and the change I have asked about is one of them) but the main change they are announcing (which should be in the direction of re-establishing some equilibrium) is not visible yet. This sounds very close to home, and a confirmation of my previous intuition. I could obviously be totally biased...

From a completely different angle, as I've read in another thread, 51 could be a loud message that I need to take immediate action on this change. I don't think the "inner" interpretation - being in a state of great arousal - is instead applicable here.

What do you guys reckon?

Thanks in advance :bows:

Hi Cris,

The question I'd be asking is, does 51 reflect your state of mind (alarmed) over this new condition, or the actual cause? Which is what you had asked. Is 51 a result or a cause? It can go either way, and be responsible for both: shock can cause physical disruptions and eruptions within our bodies.

The key in 51 is 'what to do about it?' Shock can cause different reactions, from completely numbing, to becoming suddenly awakened and alert. It is, I believe, this alert but calm state, as opposed to a panic or numb state, that the IC proposes we do about the condition. I think this is what is meant by not spilling the sacred wine, though startled. Perhaps it is the shock which makes the wine holy. Son of thunder, was a nickname for John the Baptist, who led them symbolically into death and back to life. Oh! Oh!... HA! HA! Shocked the hell out of them, he did.

Hey Bruce,

thanks for the insight. I can't really say that I am alarmed by the new condition - surprised yes, and disappointed (since as I said it is not an improvement). The general change this condition could be announcing, and which I am expecting based on a variety of different signs / symptoms, would anyway be only positive.

Assuming that with 51 the Yi has simply shown a reflection of my state of mind (which in this case I would actually find quite pointless, like going around in circles, with all due respect for the Yi!), would you recommend that I cast another reading? I am usually reluctant to ask clarifying questions if there are no changes in a situation... and I can certainly live with this and wait. I guess I have just replied my question myself :D

Last week I was involved in a conflict. So I asked about it and got 6. d'uh!

Yes, it can seem pointless to be told the obvious, but within the text of 6 is the advice in how to deal best with it. The same is true for being told that 51 is your mental/emotion or physical condition. It also says how best to deal with it.

I have no problem with asking multiple questions, so long as the earlier answer(s) have been well thought through first, and know when, as you said, we're only going in circles.

Here's to your good health in any case.

Btw, will take this opportunity to share one other observation about 51, that I think is often overlooked, including by myself. We expect to feel shaken up by shock, and it may seem strange to receive 51 at times when we don't feel in the least bit shaken up. And therein could lie the danger, because rather than feeling shaken, we feel numb. We may not even be conscious of feeling numb (because we're numb!), but we could be experiencing intense shock, and not even realize it.

So when I get 51, but don't feel 51, I turn my attention to my numbness, and my lack of life being a natural surprise - because that too is a state of shock. Maybe what one needs is safe expression of 51. A ritual or a play.

shock terrifies for a hundred miles,
he doesn't let fall the sacrificial spoon and chalice. W/B
