hi all!

there was one job announced which i have no formal experience in as a journalist,
however i have good writing skills (done writing and research)
and creativity and feel i can do it, question is would i be
accepted with similar experiences but without "title" as journalist.
Should i Apply to this job?
Yi answered: 1.1.2.3 to 12

Hm..what do you think..what is stopping me is that they simply will choose someone with
professional background they need.

Yes, I think you're right about that, innertruth. When they see you have no formal experience as a journalist, that will be the deciding factor, the 12, as in hex 12.

Also, the yang change pattern is 11 but the yin change pattern is, again, 12. This does not at all bode well for your job application and indeed it would be better not to apply. Don't waste your time.

I see no reason not to apply. I mean thinking you won't get it isn't a reason not to apply if you want. One thing is for sure you won't get it if you don't apply.

The cast cannot be taken as saying 'do not apply' IMO although I imagine they would choose someone with experience but then again it depends what kind of publication it is. Looking at the lines individually it would be pretty hard to add this up to not applying IMO.

But overall it depends I guess on how much time and effort it is for you to apply. The cast itself shows creative energy manifesting in a time where nothing much seems to come together. Why not apply ? What do you have to lose by applying ? It may be all good experience just applying.

In general if you have a creative idea that costs nothing to implement and hurts no one, including you, then don't ever not proceed because of a Yi cast you are unsure about. If someone had the urge to paint a picture and asked Yi 'shall I paint this ?' and they got a cast they were unsure about do you think it would be a good idea to stifle that creative impulse even though there could be no harm in just doing the painting even if it wasn't very good ?

The cast doesn't say that when they see your qualifications they won't accept you.. They may not accept you but the cast does not say that as if it were a known fact.

Trojina I Agree with your points.
I wanted to get a feel from Yi about potential.
So yes we will see how it goes...
When I ask should I do..I usually want to know potential of situation - will it be a favorable opportunity or not.

.1 you really shouldn't
.2 it's ok if you try
.3 you'll need to devote some time to it, but no worries

There is the want of good understanding between the (different classes of) men,

I agree with ginnie, inauspicious.

Hi innertruth

Hex 1 is a total conflict hexagram; hex 12 is a total combination one. When asking yes/no questions, a total conflict means NO and a total combination means YES; when asking if one's undertaking is favorable, a total conflict means "there is no hope" and a total combination means "there is hope". Now, a total conflict moving to a total combination, as in 1zhi12, implies "something starts bad but ends well" and "something working well against all odds".

In this case, that could be
a) against all odds, you get the job
b) you don't get the job but you do get something good anyway out of it.

Wish you all the best

@ Sixth Relative - it's amazing that 12 would mean YES.
If 12 is a YES, then what would 11 unchanging be?

Hi diamanda

In Wen Wang Gua, Hex 11 is also a Total combination one, meaning yes when asking yes/no questions

Best wishes

Hi,
I wanted to update on the outcome.
I applied because felt very driven to do it just for a try.
I havent heard from them. So they must have selected
Someone already...
Thanks all for amazing insight!!

Ginnie and ashteroid, you were right

Other guys, I truly needed to apply and im glad i did because otherwise i woud torture myself over "lost opportunity". So there was certainly a benefit in doing this.

Very valid point innnertruth.
When I'm applying for jobs I find the following two questions very helpful (esp. the 2nd one):

1. What are my chances of getting this job?
2. What's the best style to use when writing the application?
