I’m thinking of starting my own consulting business. The market for my work is good and I have contacts and a good reputation. I’m reading changing line 1 as saying don’t do it now as there may be changes I’m unaware of (within my current company?). line 2 seems to be advising to discuss it with a mentor or two. Line 3 is encouraging attention to the creative process. And line 4?? Dancing in the abyss frankly sounds like fun to me but perhaps that’s no what Yi is communicating!

Hi Water Rabbit

Should I start my own business? 1 1,2,3,4 to 20

You are at the beginning of an evaluation process ( hex 20) to see if this idea ( hex1) has enough strength to move forward and if the chosen direction is the correct one.

....summing up in practice: why not create a practical evaluation in the field equivalent to the concept of "Minimum Viable Product (MVP)"?

line 1: "check" if there is anything premature in this idea
line 2: how can I appear and be an active part of this market
line 3: all the careful steps to put this idea to the test

line4: after all this, look at "the initial plan" and compare it with the entire evaluation process (MVP)..... let all the small influences of this process come to the surface, and decide if the idea really is to move forward or if, on the contrary, it is "a thing still in its premature form".

Hi Water Rabbit,
H1 with 4 moving lines I would see as too much yang energy, too much outward action, it all has to happen now.
H20 is about considering, contemplation, but also about being seen. From a tower you can survey the situation, but the tower can also be seen from afar.
In your answer, the element of time plays a significant role.
H1 is double trigram Heaven which, among other things, is about time and timing.
The ideograph for H20 (Guan) represents a heron, herons are known to stand motionless along the water's edge for a long time and then suddenly strike to catch a fish.
So the combination H1 <> H20 can be seen as waiting for the right moment to start your business.

The lower trigram Heaven changes to Earth.
From being too action-oriented, controlling, stubborn, wanting to take charge, pushing ideas, etc. to being open and receptive. Giving space to inner growth, give ideas and intentions space to become concrete.
H1.1 The dragon is submerged. Do not act.
No action takes place here yet, it is the position of ideas, plans, etc.
H1.2 The dragon appears in the field. It is beneficial to see a great person.
Orientation and requests for help and advice
H.1.3
All day the superior person is active,
At night he remains alert.
There is danger,
But no blame.
Overactive, prioritise and make choices

The upper trigram Heaven turns into Wind because of the moving line in the 4th position.
This is about wanting to implement ideas and plans too quickly, being pushy. There is an attempt here to steer the process too much, to control it while the situation demands to let the process unfold. Trigram Wind advises to look at things in the long run. To plan well and execute it accurately. It is also the trigram of communication, willpower and paying attention to details.
H1.4 Wavering over the depths. No blame.
Some areas are still unclear and need time to crystallise.

Trigram Heaven is also about money and finance, since the lower trigram Heaven consists of only moving yang lines, this could be a red flag in this case to pay extra attention to financial matters, especially spending money. Trigram Earth advises to keep spending and receiving well balanced

The question 'Should I start my own business?' in my opinion is answered with yes, provided you don't overstrech yourself.
Planning, timing and keeping an overview are paramount for this plan to succeed.

This would be my interpretation. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest 😉

Thanks for such a detailed reply. It’s so incredibly helpful especially since I’m a newbie here. I’m also prone to wanting to make things happen NOW so I will take to ♥️ your advice to balance that yang energy
