I asked the Yi how to stop a certain pattern of behavior and got 56.4 to 52. I'd appreciate any insights

How to stop...hmm...in 56.4 the traveller is stopped, but he's still not happy.

'Traveller in a place to stay,
Gains property and an axe.
My heart is not glad.'

A traveller by nature travels, keeps going, so if you're trying to stop something that's in your nature to do, even if you're successful (as he is - he's gained property), maybe you'll also be "not glad" or not able to feel proud of yourself or whatever.

But if it's important to stop, maybe the "how" is not even to expect to feel good about it. Stop because it's necessary, and put up with the negative feelings. Maybe. Does that make any sense?

I like Karcher's take on 56 which he names as 'Sojourning at the Borders / Quest'. Stopping a certain pattern of behaviour sounds very much like you are already travelling along the path of a Quest.

Sojourning is the act of only staying somewhere temporarily and Yi advocates in this world of questing that the traveller always carries a clear, insightful and caring focus on the long term. Wandering away from this, i.e. dallying with quick fixes or miracle cures, will only lengthen the painful dance you are currently engaging in.

52 holds a place open for you in which you can keep still - even if only for a short while. Sometimes we continue wandering because that is all we know how to do - our patterns have become engrained habit. 56.4 offers you a place, on your quest, to rest awhile. Bubbling up from the depths of 56 there is a calling to you to stand without fear and to bravely remove yourself from aspects of your world that may be helping enforce your behaviour patterns. Perhaps your quest is to find this Brave New World in which you can live as you want to live.

Maybe Yi is saying that the best way to stop your pattern of behaviour is to find a permanent resting place, away from the borders, in which you feel safe and secure and from which you do not feel the need to move away.

... or it might mean nothing like this for you.

Good Luck
