Hello Yi Jing lovers,

I hope you're all keeping well.

In the past couple of weeks my weight has suddenly increased. There's been no change in my eating habits, sleeping pattern or lifestyle in general, so all I can think of is hormones playing funny on me. The increase is mixed - both lean and fat mass - and although it's not massive I feel bloated everywhere. I inquired a couple of days after I noticed, and got 18.3,5 > 59. I was naively hoping this would indicate the issue would dissolve... which unfortunately wasn't the case. I asked again today, and received 55.3,4 > 24, Abundance returning :eek::eek: I don't seem to make a lot of sense out of the changing lines lines in both castings. Any insight would be highly appreciated!

Recently I had the same thing and I learned a few weeks back that it's a fallout of Covid which I had around August last year. At the time I had Covid I lost about 5 kilos, put that back on but also gained an extra 2 kilos. Not happy!!
Both lines refer to the father so I wonder with your mention of hormones with it is testosterone related.

Could it be that the cause of weight gain has an emotional or mental origin instead of a physical? In particular, H18 - H59 seems to indicate this.

Hey there! The only thing I can think of would be: since physicality is in question, looking at the elements at play might help.

18.3.5>59
Upper:
Mountain relates to Wind
Lower:
Wind relates to water
18.gif
59.gif

The upper trigrams feel like they describe mental states: acting when appropriate, and being flexible/adaptable.
The lower feel like they describe physical states: windy... and watery!

This may be off target, but here is 18.3's fan yao, 4.3 from Hilary:
'Don't take this woman.
Sees a man of bronze,
Doesn't have a body.
No direction bears fruit.'
Usually this line has a kinda 27.1 flavor to it - the risk of losing yourself in the process of putting something on a pedestal.

18.5 can sometimes mean you yourself don't need to take action... but instead use praise. If the weight gain is not threatening your health - I might not worry about it. It doesn't seem to be connected to any negative health symptoms, right? I ching seems to be saying *some* weight gain isn't a cause for concern. 59 is about loosening boundaries, just as the opposite 60 suggests structure and boundaries of sorts.
55 suggests a peak event and 24, a repeating cycle.

If it just continues and you start having other symptoms, I would be concerned!! If you reach a stable weight, you should be able to make peace with a little restriction/limitation (60) to reach the right weight for you (61).

Best of luck <3

Update!

Hello, and thanks dear respondents! In hindsight, this was one of those cases where the casting’s meaning is derivable from the combination of the two hexes, without looking at the changing lines:

18 > 59 Dispersion of waste

which sound like an apt description of a woman’s period ;) That was it. Mine has been historically erratic and the thought did not even occur to me! So yes, hormonal for sure @ontheroad though not testosterone, and quite emotional too @Hans_K!

“55 suggests a peak event and 24, a repeating cycle.”

Spot on, @elllybellly  Also I had a chuckle seeing the connection between your user name and my issue - which, by the way, has dissolved with the discharge…

Yet another lesson from Yi!
