I'm on my summer holidays at the moment, which is a welcome break from teaching kids, and I've been using the time to put a lot of study into the tarot. I have developed what can best be described as a hunger to read for other people, so I asked the I Ching:

Do I have what it takes to read the tarot professionally?

I got hex 59, changing lines 2 and 3, to hex 53.

Any feedback on this would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Cellofellow-
Transitional hexagrams take you through 59.2 and then 20.3 to 53. For me, that?s Lovers, Ace of Swords, Prince of Pentacles. If you?re going to be relying on this tool (59.2), just learning isn?t enough. You need to be objective and test whether it works or not. This means finding out when you are wrong (20.3). The key to your progress (53) here might be in reading as an amateur for people with the skepticism and candor to tell you when you are wrong (20.3). Keeping a journal will help with this too. And, progress being gradual (53), means lots of time and patience. Anybody can jump right in and be a bad reader.

Thanks, Bradford, that helps. But I never mentioned "jumping in", hence questioning the Yi about it and asking for help with the answer on this forum. I don't need to be hasty, as I already teach for a living. Gradual progress makes sense. I got my first decks a good ten years ago, and have used them regularly for myself. Maybe testing the waters on others non-professionally first does make sense.

Hi again
Sorry, I didn't mean you by "jumping in" (& 53 was likely clear enough to you on that point too).
Just FYI, I recently started another big links page on my site, under Psychology's Primitive Tongues, with a Tarot section towards the end. It has some links to forums and associations with certification programs. You might at least be amused to see what's involved. The online "Tongues" bibliography also has a long list of the Tarot books in my collection. Most are probably reviewed on Amazon & Barnes & Noble.

Checked it out, and it looks interesting! I'd like to chat with you a bit about tarot in the divination discussion section, as it's not Yi. I'll switch to there later on. Cheers.

Cellofellow,

If you're interested, I can recommend the Tarot Association of the British Isles (TABI).

Here's their web address

www.tabi.org.uk

I joined a couple of years ago, became a TABI endorsed reader by doing 25 mentored readings on their Interenet free reading service and since then, I've done lots of readings for TABI at events all over the country.

It's been a great way-in to paid Tarot readings for me.

Maybe doing 25 mentored readings with an established organisation fits with Hx 53?

Best wishes,

Mick

Does anyone know of any links to astrology forums?

Hi Pakua -
Google and Yahoo both have Forum Search features.
With something as big as Astrology you'll likely be looking for narrower clusters of interests or really large memberships. The better Yahoo groups might have some great link pages of their own. I also have a number of links on the new "tongues" link page, next to the Tarot section.

Hello! I just asked the Yi if becoming TABI endorsed is the way to go. I got Joy changing to Following (line 2 changing). Sounds good to me! I don't know if others have this experience, but these days I find I get the clearest answers from the Yi if I only consult it occasionally. That's what's happened with these last two questions.

Cheers, till later!

Thanks for the links guys.

Mick, I went there but I can't see a forum - where is it hiding?

Oh ok, found it - thanks.
