Hi!

There's a taoist meeting with 2 chinese masters, I'd like to go but still need to find money for travel and accomodation.

I asked Yi: what would it bring me if I go to this tutorial?
3 .3.4 ---> 49

thanks for your help

Hi Reg,

3.3 seems to say at the beginning of this exploration of Taoism, it's helpful to have a guide. Otherwise, you can lose your way. My guess is that these teachers can offer guidance.

3.4 oddly enough describes a vehicle that has no horse-power. Which would make getting to the teaching difficult. It says that to try to get there is a good thing.

Not sure what 49 is saying.

Good luck!

Hi,

I agree with John's interpretation, my differences and similarities sound like this...

3-you will be sprouting like a seed breaking through the hard soil

Line 3- you need to continue to learn and better yourself, until the right time comes for
you to reach your guide, (either way, yes you
need a guide). And (2 Chinese masters make
for great guides).

Line-4 you should join with others to get there (maybe other people in a group that are also going) or (once you get there, marry the beliefs you have now with those beliefs that will be taught to you by the masters).

49- you will experience a great change. It will not be easy to let go of old ways that do not work for you, but you will, and you will replace them with more beneficial ways to help you continue to grow. Also expresses the need for the development of sincerity and trust.

But... my reading is bias :p because if I had this opportunity I would jump on it, without asking the Iching! I would be too excited.
Best of luck and wishes!

I guess I'd sound a bit like a smart-ass to ask, what self? But given the subject, I think it's a fair question. What would a taoist master have to say or know of their self which would be tao? And would they believe they have mastered tao? Wouldn't that make for a self-ish master?

I find a Taoist master as difficult to get my head around as a Yijing master. Maybe that's why they're masters and I'm not. :)

Re the reading, I'd interpret 3.3 as saying fundamentally the same. Quoting comment from LiSe:

6 at 3: Approaching the deer without a guide, it only enters deep into the forest.

This seems very Dao-like; try to name it or nail it down, and it only flees farther away from your grasp or net.

I differ from her meaning of line 4 however:

Like driving a team of horses proposing marriage.

I can't imagine a woman being happy with being proposed to with the likeness of driving a team of horses.

While it is auspicious to propose (a relationship/marriage with the Tao), and there will be a harvest, I think it would likely send her running, to court her so aggressively.

49 could indicate the importance of right timing, being ready for such things as the hunt or courtship. When the student is ready.....

The Tao that can be named isn't the Tao. The Tao that is named twice still isn't the Tao. It's just two of the ten thousand things.

Hmmm,

I would think a Chinese master of tao would be a teacher. Not considering their self a master, but being deemed a master by others because of their experience and wisdom. Master meaning teacher.

Hi and thank you all for your answers.

If I clearly understand, because english is not my mother language, Yi tells, that I should not commit myself further with taoism without a guide. These two masters brings tutorial only for five days.
I ask myself if what you interpret, tells me not too willingly seeking something (the tao that can be named...), hex49 is surely good. It tells me too (the traduction is Skinning of that Hex) change could happens in due time, but not surely what I expect.

Am I right?

Let's "talk" about it!

Thanks

Hi,
While you've been a little compulsive with your desires and questioning, there is progress and roots will take hold as long as you are comfortable allowing the past to fade.

Enjoy the adventure. A journey has a destination, adventure does not. Allow yourself to blossom.

Shrinking looked they like those who wade through a stream in winter; irresolute like those who are afraid of all around them; grave like a guest (in awe of his host); evanescent like ice that is melting away; unpretentious like wood that has not been fashioned into anything; vacant like a valley, and dull like muddy water. (Tao-te ching, v. 15, Legge version).
