Yes, your words "Ah you have mentioned Clarity forum on this one" are a link, to that noisylife-blah-blah site. I do see a clickable link there.

Ugh. No notification in the menu for this or your 'Open Space' @-ing, but the mention is listed on my 'alerts' page.

(Thank you for testing it!)

It worked inside Reading Circle, didn't it? (Let me test that again...)

The first step to debugging this would be to disable the add-on that (in theory) does email notifications of alerts. (Has anyone actually got any?) That is, I can pretty much guarantee that if I open a ticket with XenForo, that's the first thing they'll suggest.

Is this yet another (new) version of error, that a mention can appear on the alerts page itself but not in the menu list? For heaven's sake. Not appearing either place is at least consistent.

Yes, that seems to be it. Happened for me and for Trojina, if I'm understanding her right.

Yes, perfectly fine with me if you disable the email stuff, as you say it hasn't been working anyway.

Well that's the problem I started the thread in CC about yesterday...I'm confused you think it's about something else ? I don't know what menu list is though - all I know is for now people shouldn't use the mention feature because it won't be received.

...which confirmed the emails aren't being sent for mentions; it's not just that they're getting trapped by spam filters or something. Another user has found the same. The add-on creator says,
Will look into it. I'm positive it used to work at some stage :(

@hilary
When you @-ed me earlier today from private conversation:
- I did not get an email (expected, as you said above)
- but I didn't get an alert, either - there's nothing on my alerts page
- I did get a notification in the "envelope" menu box that there was new posting in the private conversation

Do 'alerts' usually cover private message replies? I thought that was a separate animal.

Um...private message replies per se, no. On the other hand, @-mentions inside private messages - I don't know how that's supposed to work, actually.

I suppose what might make sense to me, if there's an @ mention in a private message, is there'd be two notifications:
  1. "envelope box" - "there's been a new reply in your private conversation"
  2. alerts page / "bell box" / email if subscribed - "you've been @-ed" [in some place, which in this case happens to be private message]
