The Why of Chess

For years I have relished in the game of chess but never understood why I love a game so much and yet, am so very horrible at it. I thought I would ask the oracle why is it that I find myself so obsessed with this game, despite poor performance.

I got hexagram 40- Release/Relief/Deliverance. No Changing Lines.

Hexagram 40 contains the idea of aiming. Aiming in chess is strategy. The board situation is fully disclosed, but strategy is an idea and must be divined. Control of space and time, relative power of the pieces, integration of forces, superiority of force at a point -- such ideas float above the board like spirits in smoke.
