I've been having tinnitus for about 6 weeks alongside The Cold, the bad one that people are getting. The cold has almost gone but there's still thickness in my head and buzzing ears. I asked the Yi 'What will happen with my tinnitus?' and received hex 55 unchanging. Is it just going to get more and more abundant!? Are my ears too full? Should I maybe get them waxed? Ugh. Thank you!!! for any thoughts. G

It is most likely peaking and will soon decline.

From Medical Iching: indicates fevers and colds. Kidney yang deficiency.

Suggestions based on above: if you are male, don't indulge in sex for a little while since tinnitus is a kidney chi symptom and it needs to rebuild. (Walnuts, shrimps, oysters are good!) To build up kidneys: simplest way is to exercise in fresh air to invigorate lungs which nourish kidneys. Kidneys like rest, so get plenty of sleep. Avoid cold and frightening situations.

thank you this is actually extremely helpful as I do need more sleep and I think my kidneys are a bit tired, I haven't exactly been abstaining recently either, ahem.

My experience with 55 UC is also that it's at or close to the peak and will go downward or lessen from there. (One thing that protects the kidney meridian is warm socks and slippers. Keep your feet off of the bare, cold floor (etc). It's usually kidney yin or jing deficiency connected with tinnitus but the I think the medical i ching reading above coming up with kidney comes close enough since it's still a KI yin-yang imbalance. Acupuncture and herbs can help a lot of it doesn't go away soon enough for you, same with craniosacral and other similar modalities.) Hope you feel better.

edit:
also, just to say, I’m not actually trying to diagnose you! From TCM perspective, there are few systems that can cause tinnitus when in imbalance. just running with kidney since it was mentioned above and it’s a likely one. :) keeping your feet warm is such a simple thing but it’s probably one of the best I learned in school, it really does protect that meridian and will also make the effects your acupuncture treatments last longer.
