Hi everybody. i could use a little help with a couple of readings. basically the first question was what if I act now, and the second was what if I act later.

for reading one I got 30.2.5->1. This one kind of confused me. i'd guess line 2 is saying that now is the right time to act, but line 5...that's a strange one."tears flowing in torrents and groaning in sorrow. there will be progress and success." theres a contradiction if ever I saw one. In Legge's notes it says that the groaning in sorrow indicates sincerity, and this is what leads to the good fortune, but it's still a weird line. as for the secondary hex, hex 1...in my last post about hex 2, someone said that the first hexagram indicated a state where the spirit of the idea lives but you're in no position to carry it out...any thoughts?

the second reading gave me 60.2.4 -> 17. I could use a little clarification on this too. does this reading say that I should restrain myself and wait until later or that i have already restrained myself for long enough and should act now? if i take the second line alone it could be saying that if i wait any longer, i'll "lose the time for action to a great degree" but if i take both moving lines together, it seems to be saying I should "sweetly and acceptably enact" my regulations(ie. keep waiting), though if I don't take action when the time comes, then I'll miss the opportunity. the secondary hexagram, 17, is one i don't have much experience with, so any help with that would be greatly appreciated.

sorry about the length of this, but i wanted to give you my own insights on the readings. and just one more thing, based on the two answers, do you think it would be better to act now or later?

thanks!!!

Hi.

"tears flowing in torrents and groaning in sorrow. there will be progress and success." theres a contradiction if ever I saw one."

I see what you mean about a contradiction, but I think the contradiction's only apparent. See, progress and success have nothing to do with feeling happy. Sometimes progress and success arise directly out of things like remorse, repentance, a change of approach. All very unhappy, but if it results in progress and success, then what's a few tears, right? That's my take on 30.5.

Act now: 30.2.5>1. Yeah, for sure, act now. But you know, you drew 60>17 for acting later, right? That would read something like: "By limiting yourself to a more measured and periodic approach, you have something worthy of emulation to follow." Which is also good.

I think the Yi's telling you to act on it. Your choice whether it's now or later. I love Hex 30, though. I'd do it now. lol

Hi Quale

Just in case the commentarie could be useful

a) 30 have several meanings; some times is clarity of vision; others is an apassionated aproach. Acting now is passionated; when one is being passionated, one need to remain centered (the image of "Raising female cattle").

Line 2 is saying to you the same: you need to look for the center way (golden light); line 5 shows one person who is crying for his lost of clarity (doing this he can do a future progress).

Related hexagram is a "yang" way , as context of the answer

b) 60 is about respect natural limits, without excess in doing that.

Line 2 says to you: don?t act until the time is correct, but when the correct time arrives don't hesitate; line 4 is about limit yourself, but only if is natural to do it.

And related hex 17 is about following other... a "yinn" way, as a context

So.. I would read as: don't act passionated... limit yourself for a while. But no for so long time: be aware when propper time arrives.

Best wishes
