Hi everyone!

I received an offer to be a regular contributing writer for a quarterly astrology magazine. The group putting this together is the group I trained with in my studies. They all respect me and my writing and I'm honored to receive their offer.

I'm currently working on my own book and in general feel like my future is an exciting blank canvas. In my heart I want to keep the space wide open to continue to find my inner truth and stay clear of commitments that don't feel 100%.

This one doesn't feel 100%, yet I find myself making excuses for why to join: For one it would bring me more exposure of course and help my business. And I also feel guilt for not joining, like it's an ingratitude for all they have given me. Where I get stuck is I often struggle with commitments but find that I often grow when I commit to something and just choose to get it done. At this time however I feel like so much of my life is re-organizing and now more than ever I feel hesitant to commit to this. There is also the possibility that I become involved just as an occasional contributor. Or I can stay completely and energetically clear and not be involved at all for now. So it's pretty open to however I wish to be involved.

So I asked for guidance from the yi in general about this. I got 59.4.5 to 64. I'm amazed by line 4 as it seems to be confirming something that I'm feeling which is "by saying no now you create the space for something better later".

However it seems like 5 is suggesting that I join the group. I'm having difficulty piecing those 2 together.

I appreciate how appropriate 64 feels. I want to be very intentional about how I move at this time.

Looking at the change patterns, the yang pattern here is 45, the yin pattern is 26. When I get several lines that don't seem to tie up I find the change patterns can give a feel for the direction.

The yang pattern shows how you arrived here, 45, the question is about where to concentrate your energies. The yin pattern can show how to flow on through the situation. It is said the change patterns are like gateways to the reading. Hilary has written a good section on these in WikiWing for CC members.

Anyway the 26 seems to show conserving energies for a greater project. Yet I wouldn't be able to categorically say not to take this. 26 does also speak of 'not eating at home' which I haven't really got my head around.

I share your confusion on this reading to be honest. It seems to me to perhaps point to a third way because 59.5 suggests giving it all you've got, emptying your granaries, which isn't like an on going commitment more like a one off 'big give'. I'm never quite sure about 59.4 but it does suggest you separate yourself from herd mentality. Herd mentality here might possibly be "OMG this is a fantastic opportunity take it"...I say that because that's the very first thought that comes to me. What a fantastic opportunity but just because common thinking would say you surely must take it doesn't mean you should. Also I feel 59.4 calls for a little alone time to think about it, to separate from the herd awhilw to think.

I really don't think this is a black and white issue and I'm not sure about it so hopefully others will offer their take on it. Congratulations though, it is indeed an honour.

I would say that the I Ching is showing you the main alternatives. You can free yourself of this commitment or you can be like the king, who stays at his position dispensing benefit to all. I think the I Ching is saying it is totally up to you to choose what you want to do here.

When line 4 changes, that produces hex 6, Conflict or Arguing.

When line 5 changes, that produces hex 4, Innocence, which in my opinion is a good hexagram for students and teachers.

Given those two changing lines, if I had gotten this reading I think I'd probably accept the assignment and use my writing as an opportunity to teach what I know to others. But it could be that I understand line 5 better than I understand line 4. The decision has to be yours and yours alone.

Resolved!

Once again, I'm amazed and humbled by the wisdom and clarity of the I ching.

I finally decided to just let the individual who offered this to me to know where I'm at. To be honest and truthful and see what happens. That itself was a healing realization (when I asked Yi about approaching her in that way I got 55.1 to 62). I told her that I'm unclear about the extent to which I can contribute, that my energies are focusing on other projects and I want to be 100% about what I do. I didn't say no or yes, I just told her where my struggle is.

She responded in the most beautiful and loving way and basically said that she/ they appreciate me and would love my involvement to any extent. If I'd just like to contribute a poem, or something I've already written etc that would also be accepted, be it in the upcoming issue or a future one. So the space is there for me to be myself and for me to allow natural timing for inner truth to lead the way. I feel really loved and supported to just be myself. It is relieving and very healing for me to experience that there is no conflict; that I can be involved in the ways that line up with my authentic being.

I did ask the yi before I cast the above hexagram what to do and I got 61 unchanging. I now understand that one a lot more. My intention is to allow the joy and peace of living my life in in truth, clarity and beauty to reveal what contributions if any wish to be offered to the magazine in an organic way without forcing anything.

From the hexagram 59.4.5 I can now understand the meaning of line 4. I'm not jumping in and have allowed for a rearrangement of my perception of the matter. And line 5 might imply the possibility that I will have something to share in a more whole and complete way.

Hi everyone, wanted to offer a complete update on this situation.

Just a few days that submissions were due for this astrology journey, a friend asked me if I wrote about a particular astrological transit she was interested in learning more about. I happened to have something that I wrote up for some students a couple months earlier. I found it and sent it to her. When I read over it, I realized it would actually make a great article. So I refined what I wrote into an article and submitted it just before submissions were due. I just found out that it's being published as one of the title features in the upcoming journal.

So I really get 59.4. I disengaged completely from the group. This allowed energy to re-organize itself in a very natural and organic way. One I couldn't have controlled or forced. Then 59.5 I contributed something that will be of service to many who read it.

Also shines more light on 64. I was very much before completion for a while. By not rushing forward but following the tao, the completion happened in a harmonious way.
