Yes, I'm taking everything seriously re I Ching.
Hi, Moss:I hope you aren't taking this list seriously?
Lawyers are Qian?
more like K'an!
It lists Criminal as an occupation??
MICHEL FOUCAULT
Order of Things
(Preface)
«This book first arose out of a passage in Borges, out of the laughter that shattered, as I read the passage, all the familiar landmarks of my thought—our thought that bears the stamp of our age and our geography—breaking up all the ordered surfaces and all the planes with which we are accustomed to tame the wild profusion of existing things, and continuing long afterwards to disturb and threaten with collapse our age-old distinction between the Same and the Other.
This passage quotes a ‘certain Chinese encyclopaedia’ in which it is written that ‘animals are divided into:
(a) belonging to the Emperor,
(b) embalmed,
(c) tame,
(d) suckling pigs,
(e) sirens,
(f) fabulous,
(g) stray dogs,
(h) included in the present classification,
(i) frenzied,
(j) innumerable,
(k) drawn with a very fine camelhair brush,
(l) et cetera,
(m) having just broken the water pitcher,
that from a long way off look like flies’.
In the wonderment of this taxonomy, the thing we apprehend in one great leap, the thing that, by means of the fable, is demonstrated as the exotic charm of another system of thought, is the limitation of our own, the stark impossibility of thinking that.»

I don't understand why you said that "this stuff is not I Ching".
Really not much. How much do you know about Plum Blossom Metholody by Shao Yung (Shao Kang Jie)?
Hope my explanation helps.
I read that the trigram ☰Heaven represents Lawyer, ☳Thunder represents Musician, and ☵River represents Chemist. Does anyone know which trigrams represent the following occupations?
Accountant; Actuary; Bookkeeper; Personal Secretary; Human Resource Personnel; Economist
Sailor; Army Officer; Submariner
Cartoonist; Tailor; Fashion Designer; Industrial Designer; Photographer
Aircraft Engineer; Chemical Engineer; Oil Rigger; Industrial Designer
Computer Programmer; System Analyst; Electronics Engineer
Fortune Teller; Sorcerer; Wizard / Witch; Spirit / Ghost
Warehouse Foreman; Export / Importer; Logistician
Security Officer; Criminal; Police; Secret Service; Inspector
Librarian; Council Worker; Public Servant; Politician; Lobbyist
Laboratory Technician; Scientist; Carthographer
Stockbroker; Insurance Broker; Mortgage Broker;
Hi, Glob:Hi Charly,
Thanks for your reply.
Listing mother, wife, bride, etc. is easy. You see, I used Plum Blossom Methodology 95% of the time. When a divination is presented about a of dilemma, for example, "What occupation should I do - accountant or lawyer?", I just want to know which of the trigram represents it - whether it is the Ti trigram or one of the Yung trigrams. By knowing which of the trigram represents the said occupation, it tells me that I'm on the right path and which of the forces are affecting it directly or indirectly.
Sometimes, when a dilemma question is asked, the presentation showed only one of the occupation. It is presented by the Yung trigram with the Moving Line. And surprisingly, the other occupation is presented in the Yung trigram of the Changed Hexagram.
Interpretating the presentation can be a challenge sometimes but incredibly exciting and mind-blowing.
Thank you for the article by Michel Foucault. The concept therein does explains some of the divination I came across.
Cheers

So, the Plum Blossom method cross references with the Chinese calendar.
I do have one question for you, globalex.
How do you account for the fact that I am able to consult the I Ching, without referencing any calendar, and still obtain the answers that I seek? (every time)
Surely, it is not because I am an anomoly, that the spirits take pity on?
Here are some thoughts:
Witch - Dui (lake) also means "witch".
Accountant, System Analyst- Kun (earth) also means "multitude".
Human Resources, Politician - Dui (lake), "convincing".
Economist - Xun (wind), "good income, profit".
Army Officer - Li (fire), "armour, weapons".
Tailor - Kun (earth), "cloth".
Submariner, Oil Rigger - Kan (water), "fatigue, dangerous travel".
Cartographer - Xun (wind), "craftmanship".
Hi, Glob:
About Plum Blossom little I know. Only whay I remember of the late Jou Tsung Hwa, Tao of Divination. Here in the forum there was an specialist in Weng Wang Divinarion, Ivonne, but it was years ago.
All my experience with divination was reading the Zhou Yi mainly in traditional renderings like Wilhelm / Baynes or Blofeld. The last years I was more interested in modernist translation wich leaded me to trying with my own literal alternatives, always tentative and much of the time contradictory.
I have little time for studying another methodology. Nobody's perfect!
I don't know how can we help you with the theme of occupations. If you have an idea, let us know.
Be welcome,
Charly
May I know how do you consult the I Ching? What sort of methodology do you use?
I generate 6 lines (using coins), then read the text for the hex's and lines that are generated.
How does that relate to my question?
