Hello all, going through a difficult time with my gf. Not sure if she's telling the truth about everything. I asked: what if I trust her? 48UC the well. I feel stuck, any thoughts? Thank you

If you trust her, the situation will continue between you as it has so far.
She is a basic source of "nourishment" for you, and that won't change.
Keep in mind here, you're not asking if she's honest.
You're just asking what if you trust her. So, yes, trust her and it will go well ("well").

The advice, the Image, for this hexagram is that people should work together. Also the lines describe first an old abandon well that is then repaired and becomes a source of good water. Seems to me you are being advised to bring up and resolve your trust issues.
I think one of the main attractions of love is that you feel you can trust the other person completely. You feel it's safe to invite them into your head and you share each other's brains and become one entity. If you don't feel that way I think it's really important to figure out why and see if the issues can be dealt with - otherwise the rope breaks and the bucket doesn't go down deep enough.

I'm thinking more about receiving 48 as the response to this question -
and thinking of the well as being a great symbol for trust because people build it together (the advice of the Image - people should work together) and come to trust each other and depend on each other to keep the well clear and clean. We build trust just as we build a well - by working together over time.

Interesting how Wilhelm's translation that says the well can not be made greater or lesser - like you trust each other or you don't.

Maybe the wooden pole that doesn't reach the bottom points out the frustration of not feeling you can trust completely. Does the love go deep enough? In fact...
Maybe for Valentine's Day you could play the song "How Deep Is Your Love?" and see what sort of conversation that sparks!

Many thanks for explaining that, it helps. I think you're right that to gain trust we need to show it. Thanks again.
