A choice: 17.5 or 20.6?

Your thoughts...

Jte, so you have a choice between being a audience or a follower?
Both could be beautiful but you have a much different role to play in each case.

Tracing a path of 20.6, your role could be an audience
where you have no much influence to the prevailing event.
If there is any, that would probably confine to your spiritual side.

17.5 is a path laid down before you if you yield to the heaven mandate.
Accept guidance and help to follow thru each process on your path.
Could be a beautiful path to claim your own?

Sui--when what is strong bends itself low and goes underneath what is weak. A king serving his people, inspiring the people to follow the king, and so the king is served by those he serves.

Heaven becoming humble before the earth, heaven going below the earth and supporting what is weak. Following as a way to lead--becoming humble in following, leading in being humble.

Lake above, thunder below, joy being carried on a powerful current, joy blanketing a sharp force, softening its edges--people are attracted to what is strong and what is bright, people follow what is gentle and what is mild.

Sui;Zhen--things coming full circle with ease and grace. Where what is intended becomes, where what is subtle and latant emerges with great force and clarity, where what follows truely leads, and what leads truely follows--a perfect union.

When the strong respond to the weak in the way inspired by heaven and earth. The strong, the upright, being in its proper place, having its heart following heaven, responding to the presence of the weak. The weak being in its proper place, passive, humble, receptive. The strong becoming the weak, having firm conviction and filled with brilliant force, coming down to meet the passive, leading the meek with gentle whispers. The strong leading the weak by becoming that which it seeks to have follow.

Guan--Watching, seeing what was once only heard, watching with two eyes, one being your own, one being borrowed, trusting what is borrowed and gaining the insight of a greater perspective. Watching from above, being watched from below. A powerful bird with sharp eyes watching the ground with one eye, watching the sky with the other. Countless eyes watching the bird from below--If the sky is clear the bird will soar in search of prey, if a storm looms the bird will retreat and take shelter. All things on the ground act in accordance with what the bird is seen to do.

Watching what one can see, listening to those that watch--the eyes of others become your own--how one can come to see what is heard.

Guan;Bi--watching with great depth, seeing all things, going far above, but not unseen--when one steps back but does not hide, when one finds silence a refuge but does not forsake a word spoken by another.

Watching what is perfect, seeing what is perfect, knowing this does not make one perfect. Becoming aware of what is above, remembering what is below, being influenced by what is above and by what is below.

Thanks, Brian...

If I may ask, how long have you been using the Yi?

Hi Jeff, I bumped into the I Ching about 4 years ago, but of that time I have only really tried to "consult" or properly interpret it for a few weeks, a few long weeks. Since then Ive abandoned the task of trying to use it or even understand it for that matter--I just enjoy reading it and Im grateful to have found you folks.

With that all said, I should also say at some point that all of my words here are nothing more and nothing less than personal expressions of the various paths you folks bring up, I paint with broad strokes and everything I write is very general.
