Imo, 50 is about a situation that is replete with potential. There are all the tools for something to happen, but it's up to you to grasp them and do with them what you will. 40 is about escaping danger. Perhaps there is a danger that you need to escape, and all the tools are there, but it's just a matter of figuring out how to use them.

The lines might shed some light into this:

3 indicates that one method of figuring out how to "work" has changed, and is difficult to use. However, as all things change, they also change in your favor. Though loss is tragic, patience and adaptation usually carries good fortune... in the end.

6 indicate that the method of "working" is wonderful, and not something to let go. If you ease up a little bit, you might be able to employ it.

I'm relying a lot on metaphor here, and the lines seem contradictory, but many situations are. Hopefully this sheds some light on things.

Recently I casted also 50 with multiple changing lines and used the transitional hexagram method. This means that you have to look at 50, 50.3 > 64, 64.6 > and 40. I'm not going to attempt an interpretation, but I believe there is a lot of sens in this sequence. Best regards.
