USC grad admissions questions

Hello All -

I applied to USC PhD programs in Physics and Electrical Engineering to enter in Fall 2020. I got a rejection email from Physics earlier today. So I asked:

Why was I rejected? 37.5.6 to 36

Reading through James DeKornes website maybe the message is good try - something better is coming. Or maybe the opposite that sincerity was not there? Im open to any feedback here.

Then I asked:

Am I likely to be admitted to USC EE? 19.1.2 to 2

From perusing the commentary on these lines I think that it is plausible that I could be admitted. Its my last shot this time around...

Your rejection came about because there was something in your application that did not show you in your full brilliance (36). Your words did not meet with the requirements. Now though you have a chance to put things in order (37.5) and to take a good look at what you really want to do (37.6)

You are swimming in a sea of a million possibilities and you are the person who can bring them to be (2). If this is what you really want this is what will happen. (19.1) Make the most of whatever comes from this situation - it'll be a blast (19.2)

...or it may be nothing like this at all for you.

I can imagine several scenarios that would explain your answer to the first question (1) my statement of purpose was not up to par. I was dealing with extraneous urgent matters so I did it under duress (2) my advisor may not have given his highest recommendation. I wont say a whole lot about this. (3) Or it was literally true - they received 'an overwhelming number of strong applications this year' not bright enough. The number of international applicants rises every year - especially from China

I can also think of several possibilities that may come about from your second interpretation. (1) Face value - I get in and right away Im in a cutting edge area - playing in the big leagues. (2) I remember reading something about 8th month and pitfall in 19.2. Fall semester starts around the 8th month. It may be too much - my life may be too complicated for such an intense program. (3) How is my sincerity?

Ill be sure to post an update. Any day now I should know the outcome
