reading that great thread I thought I had a little thought to add, so here it goes:

in the first page Pedro and Hilary wonder about "the stick" that we find in hex.59
in the third page LiSe quotes from an italian translation of the Yi the following:

As I contemplated the wonder of the “Stick” in Hex 59, it lead me to the thought of the ‘simple action’ of an athlete Pole Vaulting…….his mind is fixed ahead of him, building up his skill….he vaults in imagination into the future. If we were able to take a closer look as he is ready to leap, we would notice the placement and grasp of his hand, the arch of his foot, the muscles of his shoulder and pelvis and of course the pole itself, where energy is stored and released (similar to a bow firing an arrow). It is a sense of foresight, the ability to fix an objective ahead and ‘hold’ one’s attention on it. The whole performance unfolds from a continued plan….from one extreme to the other.

Confucius’ commentary on this Hex “The merit comes from mounting on the “wood”.
