"What hexagram and line characterize my relationship with x?"

I got 13.5 and it is true that I am separated from someone as Wilhelm's commentary points out. However, what do you think of the question itself? I suppose I could have asked "What is my relationship with x?" but instead I chose to ask the IC in this manner.

Hi esolo

Personally I like the second question best. You could have also asked something like:
"What do I need to know about my relationship with X?"
"How is my relationship with X proceeding at teh moment?"
"What are X's feelings towards me?"
"What are my feelings towards X?"

Take your time composing your question as you only get an answer to the question you have posed. Each question has a slightly different viewpoint and as such will invoke a slightly different response.

The questions should be open so that they cannot be answered yes or no. Try questions starting How? What? Why?
Ask for guidance on, insights into and request the yi to make comments about.

There is a downloadable pdf http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/members/ giving examples of good questions and structure. There are also a shed full of questions in the threads here for you to copy and use.

My best advice is to turn the situation over in your head, find out what it is you want to really know and then compose the question to give you the information you are looking for .

Picking the right question to ask is an art form. Expect a number of "wrongly" phrased questions along the way, you'll know this has happened when the answer given makes sense but solves a differnt question to the one you asked. Practice makes perfect.

Love and hugs

Mike

I think that the question is quite okay and you received an answer that did indeed show the situation but with the promise of a reconciliation. But you still face various challenges before this can happen. This then gives Hex 1 which is very positive.
