What are the effects of contacting X about this matter? 38.4 > 41

Hi all,

I had this idea that x might be able to help me make progress in my life when pondering some things today and decided to consult the I Ching. I asked "What are the effects of contacting x about this matter?" and received 38.4 > 41. I feel like I'm reading mixed messages from the result because on the one hand it suggests there's a person of importance you might come into contact with if I'm reading right, but also suggests that there will be some form of danger or misfortune (but no blame). So I'm not sure if the answer is that it's got positive effects to do this or negative - or both. Any insight into the result and/or other experiences with this hexagram and line?

I think you may be look for more from X than X can deliver, but what do you have to lose by asking?

I think you will benefit from contacting X. It seems to me it can be extremely helpful to have a real human being to bounce our ideas off of and not be relying mainly on the I Ching for interaction and guidance.

Personally, my experiences with 38.4 and communication have all been positive-- so I would say go for it.

Interesting thoughts on this. I was thinking this person would be useful to contact, but on a google search it appears the individual isn't as involved in the area I'm interested in as he used to be. This would support cornucopia63 and pocossin saying that I may not be best to be heavily involved with the individual, or I may have been thinking I'd achieve more from the individual than I actually would gain from them.

Speaking to someone else regarding career I was recently advised to not give up on the path where I had been considering going in the recent past but haven't felt that much of a pull toward. Something about it seems uncomfortable to me, so I don't know whether to trust the advisement of this person or not. I decided as writing this to pause and then ask the I Ching: What are the effects of following the advice of A?

It tells me... 4.2 > 23

I feel like this result is telling me in a sense what my feelings are saying, not to follow the advice as it might give negative results. But reading more into it, I'm really not sure what this line is telling me. The person I ask about (A) is not a child or anything. They tend to be a person who doesn't necessarily know me 100%, but a strong person who's opinions within the profession I have felt comfortable with and trusted before so I'm not sure why this time I lack trust in it. Maybe the result says something more to it though. This second question has links back to things discussed in this thread too I thought I'd add.

Nevertheless, I still think you would benefit from speaking with that individual you mentioned, even if he cannot deal with 100% of your concerns or his interest in the subject was more in the past. I think you should make use of any contacts you have, because of your extreme uncertainty on issues related to your future. It's good talking to people! They can shed more light on your options.
