What are the effects of resisting the big ticket request of my staff? Hex 63.1.2.3.5 > 7

I find it interesting that completion (63) was cast here. I thought that 63 would mean more or less the end of an issue, but with the changing lines it seems to indicate something different than that?

I've never been sure how to interpret hexagram 7 either, the army seems to me like it's suggestion some kind of fight or something but maybe I'm not paying enough attention to details about these hexagrams.

Ehm, if i understand correctly your staff asked you to buy tickets to a sports event?

Hex 63 is about equilibrium, fire under water - boiling water in the kettle, that can extinguish the fire.
Wilhelm: For it is just when perfect equilibrium has been reached that any movement may cause order to revert to disorder.

Hex 7 is about the army, your staff. It says you should care about them, win them by love, and then they will fight for you without any reservations.

I think if you resist to grant the request, you risk losing the balance and the support of your people (line 1, tail in the water, broken wheels). Nothing serious, but it will leave some negative emotions afterwards.
line 2: "The woman loses the curtain of her carriage. Do not run after it; On the seventh day you will get it."
When a woman drove out in her carriage, she had a curtain that hid her from the glances of the curious. It was regarded as a breach of propriety to drive on if this curtain was lost.

line 3: "After three years he conquers it. Inferior people must not be employed."
The territory won at such bitter cost must not be regarded as an almshouse for people who in one way or
another have made themselves impossible at home, but who are thought to be quite good enough for the colonies.
--
Treat all of your staff equally?

line 5, Wilhelm:
Therefore a simple sacrifice offered with real piety holds a greater blessing than an impressive service without warmth.
--
You don't need the most expensive tickets.

Hope this helps )

By big ticket, I meant simply an expensive piece of equipment that there is not a lot of easily available funding for, so I hesitate to go for it when it seems that only a few staff have the "need" for it and others seem fine with how things are operating with out it. I'm wondering if these descriptions you give suggest that giving into the request for the equipment would be treating some as more important than others, or would it be treating them all as equal if I give in to the request? The point abotu not requiring the most expensive would make sense because I would need a basic version rather than one with all the bells and whistles.

Oh, now I see. That changes the context of the question for me.
I suppose you are not the man in charge of the money. In hex 7 - you are only a general, situated under the King.

Lines 1, 2 and 3 say that you can't do anything for now. "wet tail", "wait for 7 days", "war for three years".
Line 5 says do something simple.

Then I decided to follow the path of the lines.
63.1 -> 39 (Shows its subject as a driver) who drags back his wheel, (or as a fox) which has wet his tail. There will be no error. (Legge)

39.2 -> 48 The king's servant meets with obstruction after obstruction. But it is not his own fault. (Wilhelm)
You don't have enough resources.

48.3 -> 29 The well is cleaned, but no-one drinks from it. This grieves my heart; since one could draw from it. If the king was clear-minded, people could enjoy together the good fortune. (Wilhelm)
If you ask the boss maybe he can shuffle some money to your department. Or there is a source of money but you don't know about it, or it's not the time yet.

29.5 -> 7 The abyss is not overflowing, it is only filled to the rim. No error.* (Wilhelm)
Danger comes because one is too ambitious. In order to flow out of a ravine, water does not rise higher than the lowest point of the rim. So likewise a man when in danger has only to proceed along the line of least resistance; thus he reaches the goal. Great labors cannot be accomplished in such times; it is enough to get out of the danger.

Be patient, maybe in time the situation will improve.

Hmm, I felt like asking a further question: What can I do in regard to the situation with my staff request? and received Hexagram 8.6 > 20. I don't understand this as answering the question I asked. It seems like it could make sense with regard to how the situation came to be what it is somehow, but I don't know.

The results of resisting a benefactor's reward is that things come to an end. Take away motivation and reward and you take away roi. It's like eating your leg to stay alive.

There's disagreement (surprise!) on whether 63 means crossed or finishing the process of crossing, or committed to crossing. If something's a done deal in your head, it ought to be a done deal. I'm of the latter understanding, based mostly on observation. I modified a guitar, and my vision and fine motor skills not being what they once were, I cut the main leads to the stitch, and then would need to get inside some little things I'd rather not. I asked Yi, what do I do now? A: 63 - Finish it! Which I did, though it looked liked refridgerator appliance type wire, cuz that's who did for me, it worked, it was complete, and it rawked.

I notice that the yang change pattern is hexagram 5, Waiting. And the yin change pattern is 35, Progress.

Resisting the request is perhaps waiting for another time to provide what they want. Perhaps that is how the question translates into Yi language. I think the meaning of 35 in this instance is to shine a light on the question and bring all aspects of it to light.

The 8.6 from your second question seems to suggest that there is nobody around to serve as the leader regarding this piece of equipment; nobody with enough experience perhaps.

ginnie - There does seem to be a lot of maybes and guesses at reasons it would be worthwhile rather than a leader who can make a decisive choice. I personally don't see any good enough rationale for the need for it to be worthwhile and it is more or less out of my hands at this point while a person who can assess the need looks into things further.

sooo - hmm do you mean if I think it's unnecessary then it's unnecessary when you say "if something's a done deal in your head, then it's a done deal"? Definitely disagreement there. I would think some might think the decision is a done deal, whereas I do not. Others feel there is an issue needing to be dealt with but unaware of either the perspective that the equipment will be given or that it will not be attained.
