I'm curious if people have special coins, either vintage currency or modern, that they've chosen to use specifically for the readings. I don't know if we can post pictures but that would be great!

Three ancient Chinese coins with a square hole in the middle - they must be replica. Purportedly they were coined in the time of Wangman, an emperor with socialist leanings who reigned from 5-25 A.D. The coins look quite new after I cleaned them;-)
Otherwise I use three 20 Eurocent pieces, they just have the right size.

Virtual coins, using six throws, or the virtual marbles, or if I want a more hands on approach, I was given three old Chinese coins, which fit into a rosewood and brass, six-sided case. Practically speaking, pennies work just as well. I've even used guitar picks, which is kinda fun because you get to really toss them into the air, like releasing yourself to fate, or the gods, or God, or to nothing at all. Let the picks fall where they may. That could be a little painful with coins.

Spanish coins, before the Euro, when the currency was called peseta. They must be at least twenty years old, I think. I kept them after a holiday to the south of Spain and have since been using these coins to do my readings.

any old 5 eurocents coins did the job for awhile-- then i decided to go to a coin shop and get 3 of these

1975_Ireland_Half_Penny.JPG

i was born in 1981, a particularly bad year for coin minting in ireland apparently, so all three are 1980 minted coins.

I dont hold any special significance to them, apart from the fact that their sole purpose is for I ching use. I've recently been getting into the idea of ritual, if nothing else to help calm my mind before casting. this is one of my 'tricks' :)

YXELI'S halfpennies look like they could do with a dip in vinegar or something.
I like two euro coins because they have a big number 2 on the reverse tails ( smaller scale ) side.
The obverse heads side has a harp, the Irish national emblem.
On wood they create quite a clatter but thats probably good chi.
See wikipedia's obverse reverse.

I use the same coins in real and in digital form. The oracle on my website has images of my own (real) coins. I usually use the digital ones, the real ones rolled away several times and were almost unfindable. Of one set one coin got lost forever..
This set has hex.1 on all three, they were coined during the Qian dynasty.

yeah my coins need a good soak for sure!

I bet they got some big chi alright- those 2 euro coins are fairly hefty!

it never occured to me about weighting- actually these hapennys are super light and very small - i dont know how much that effects the casting but i definitely prefer a little more substance to play with too :)
