What could I do to improve chances at Z company? Hex 63.4 to 49

63.4 says The finest clothes turn to rags. Be careful all day long. Hexagram 49 says Revolution.

I take the overall message as a warning or something of decadence is involved, and not to expect anything great. The image that hexagram 63.4 paints is a negative one almost warning me of something or decadence, and 49 hints at the idea that I might need to do something big in order to get the job. If someone could clarify this or correct me in my analysis I would appreciate it.

The gua 63 means that fortune is at its best now, and afterwards there will be decline. Hence, you cannot do anything to overreach in your efforts. Be careful says the moving line. There are differing translations; however, it appears to me that that there is a transition that is being caused by something bad happening, like a leak in a wall that needs to be plugged, even with good cloth. The care means that you must walk the proper path at all times, because there is something that is awry about you. If you do, then 49 abolishes the past in a favorable way. The revolution only succeeds with virtue is maintained. While 63 is bad for the long haul, 49 is very good for starting something new. Overall, I think that both of these hexagrams indicate that you must look at yourself carefully and see what it is that is wrong about you that you need to correct.

When you say I must walk the proper path are you implying I am pursuing the wrong career path? Because in the past many people have told me (numerologists included) said business is not so favorable, but they hinted teaching, speaking, researching, and something of that sort. I want to correct whatever is "awry" with me, but doing so would mean going in a completely different direction than what I have been doing or intend to do. It would be a big risk to take.

I'm assuming you're going for a job interview? The line seems to say there's something to be cautious about, something in the environment is changing. But that might be within yourself, as the i ching usually talks about inner stuff I've found. Maybe the line is just reflecting your state of mind? It might just be saying that it's difficult to know what's going to happen, you're doubting yourself a little maybe, so try to be cautious and alert. Lise's translation might help maybe? "Short term solutions can be great for just that: short term. If you don’t replace them with lasting ones, they will keep you busy, and in the end cost much more time and effort than solving it once and for all in a good way." I think with applying for jobs it's hard to say how to improve your chances, because you don't know the other candidates and if they're more qualified than you. Maybe try to thoroughly prepare for the interview if there is one as best you can, don't get your hopes up but give it a good try. Maybe be prepared for any questions they might throw you, which might put you off, try to have an answer prepared?

Walking the right path is doing what is right for you and right in terms of others. It is a course of moderation and justice. However, having said that, you have to look to yourself to see what it is that you really want and how well are you really doing in what you are doing, because there is something in your life that is not working harmoniously. However, 63 is not good for long-term changes, but getting a new job is possible, but a bit difficult.

After this confusion I asked the I-ching "what career path should I take where I will be successful" and got Hexagram 63 unchanging...which is incompletion so I don't really know what vocation or career I should take.

Then I asked "Will I be able to find a respectable, decent job before I graduate college" and got Hexagram 17 unchanging which means following...I guess that means I should keep in contact with companies I've applied to.

But the thing that bothers me the most is how come the i-ching never hinted something wasn't harmonious in my life before. I mean always liked philosophy and was considering doing grad school in Neurophilosophy, but I was told by many professors not to go to grad school(at least not right away) because the job market for philosophy teachers is bad. I was told to get a job first then go back to grad school b/c it would be hard to find a job later if I changed my mind.

The other thing is the job I initially asked a question about is a part time job (20 hours) because I was planning on working and studying for my exams for grad school so I dont see how I am doing the wrong thing. I am doing the best possible thing I can think of in my situation and leaving my options open.

Hello Jp78,

If hex 63.4 is the cast for your part-time job, I would read it as - move in cautious. Do the work, earn the cash and juggle your studies well. It is going to be tricky, but as long as you persevere, you will be fine.
