what is Janet's opinion of me?

i hope someone can help me with this one. i need to call a woman that i had some contact with about 1.5 years ago. the contact at that time was kind of strange and i thought that she might have thought i was unstable LOL (this is not a reltionship question) so....now i want to contact her again, feel that i NEED to contact her again, but i'm a little bit afraid. before i did this i wanted to ask what opinion she holds of me. i got

18.1.4 to 14

18 is about fixing things, working on what has been spoiled or allowed to decay. someting like that is going on here which i why i feel the need to call her. however, the question was about her opinion of me?

line 1 is about how too much "tradition" or an overly rigid adherence to rules has caused the decay. the "background" of 26.1 implies authoritarianism in some form and very rigid limits as being the cause of the decay. people have not been lenient enough. it can still be fixed though by questioning tradition....which is good. perhaps it could be summed up by the popular phrase "Question authority".

line 4 is about how tolerating rotten traditions and suffocating authoritarianism will lead to disaster. the corresponding 50.4 is about how one is not able to eat the food in the cauldron because of a structural imperfection. the implication is that there is good food in there.

looking at both lines togther the message seems to be that not following tradition is the best course of action. the judgement is also favorable:

Work on What Has Been Spoiled
Has supreme success.
It furthers one to cross the great water.
Before the starting point, three days.
After the starting point, three days.

here we are told to work on fixing things and that we will be successful. i will understand the "before the starting point..." phrase to mean, be careful, don't be too hasty.

the resulting hex 14 is a good one.

ok, enough of that. my problem is that i can't seem to fit this into my question, "What's Janet's opinion of me?" do you think based on this answer that i can expect a cordial response from her?

yes, what i'm thinking of doing would be fairly revolutionary. i feel though that it needs to be done, too much time has gone by and there hasn't been an adequate resolution to the problem. the answer here suggets that the call will indeed have a revolutionary effect on the situation, i think. 53 is a good hex but what about the moving lines of 49? i tend to discount them when there are three or more and just look at the two hexes. it seems like calling Janet is OK. what do you think?

Finally, because there is a third party involved here whom I also have a "spoiled" relationship with...i wanted to know how he would react if i call Janet:

13.4.5.6 to 36

it sounds good to me. it sounds like a call to janet will be revolutionary and solve some problems, solve the "decay". i'm so nervous about doing this so ANY help would be very, very, very much appreciated. this issue means so much to me.

Your original question, "What does she think of me?" 18.1.4>14 suggests to me that she retains some sort of slightly negative impression of you from the past, but nothing that couldn't be put right. 14 has everything coming out in the open so this seems encouraging for contacting the woman.
What do I need to know? 49.1.4.6 > 53 tells me she is open to clearing up the situation.
13.4.5.6 > 36 makes me think this 3rd party may not approve, or perhaps 13 Fellowship leading to Darkening of the Light simply means you needn't require this person's approval before moving ahead.

I think this is one of those situations Bruce was talking about where asking the I Ching too many questions can sap your strength so you become like a deer caught in the headlights and you can't take any action. Your original question where you received 14 sounds encouraging enough to move forward, IMHO.

i think the 36 may reflect this third party's position at the present, as in, it's the context. i haven't had any contact with him since our last contact over 1.5 years ago. so one could say that he's "hiding his light". i thought that hexagram 13 sounded very positive and that we might perhaps be able to patch things up. it's so hard to know what to do with the relating hexes.

hex 18.4 if you can talk to her and explain your past behaviour, then you will prevent yourself from further problems/embrassment.
hex 14 act with modesty and grace then she will think well of you. Very good.

hex 49.1 take it slowly and think very carefully about what you are going to say to her.
hex 49.4 your doubts will disappear, and she will listen to you.
hex 49.6 when you have settled the main problem/reason with her, then be satisfied, don't ask for too much.

hex 53 gradual progress will be made with your situation, here it suggests slow but sure.

hex 13.4 it appears that he is still angry with you but you can slowly repair the damage done in the past.
hex 13.5 obviously problems have occurred in the past between you but put the past behind you, then you can be friends again or at least on speaking terms again.
hex 13.6 in the end all will be okay.

hex 36 says to remain hopeful, but be prepared to give ground to him, don't be stubborn/pig-headed, and let the past go. Persevere at creating an harmonious relationship with him. Okay.
