Dear IChing - community,

today i want to share a reading with you and ask for your support while interpreting it. To my question: „What contribution of mine is needed for the benefit of the world?“, I got the answer 10 UC.
What do you think the IChing wants to tell me here?
Asking this question I longed deeply for an answer of how I can live my life in such a way that it is for the good of all?
I am very grateful for the peace and the wealth in my life, but at the same time so many people are suffering.
And i wanted to know how I can be of use for the world and my community within my means?
What are my strengths and talents to share with the world and how can i use them for the sake of all?

Thanks for every thought and contribution to my question in advance!

Warm regards,

Foic

Hello,
The hexagram 10 UC "Walking on the tiger's tail" is probably a tip to find your own way. A symbol to identify the path that is yours and the paths that belong to others. Discriminate. Hexagram 10 speaks of a tiger insofar as it is a question of "authority" must be indentified...

The complementary hexagram is 15 : integrity, consciousness, balance.

When you ask for your contribution for the benefit of the world, are you looking for a profession or an activity that goes in this direction?

Hello Matali,

thanks for your response!
What do you mean with "... it is a question of authority must be identified..."?
And what role plays the complementary hexagramm in the interpretation of an oracle?
To your question: I think with my profession i can make a good contribution to the world (i am a consultant, supervisor and coach). I think the question about my contribution is more about my attitude and behaviour.

The authority of the tiger is symbolic. I think the advice is to be careful in your approach, to observe your work as if you had a tiger in front of you... Do not be too reckless, pay attention to the approach with which you must move forward to help people, since you are a coach... I do not know to what extent that resonates with you. But I think that's 10's advice: be careful in your approach. When you read the different lines of 10, you can see the steps to observe to keep the balance...

Maybe this 10 corresponds to a particular situation right now in your life

Thank you again, Matali, for your response.

In Alfred Huangs I-Ching-book he writes in the commentary on the decision:
„… The firm is central and correct;
Fullfil ones duty in the place of a ruler and feel no guilt.
His brillance shines.“
So here i think here is also mentioned a connection to the aspect of leadership and how to relate to this.
Also interesting: Alfred Huang names hex 10 „Fulfillment“, saying that this is about carrying out ones duty.

I think I will have to move the hexagram around inside me for a while to grasp the deeper layers of its meaning.

I think Matali made some really good key points here.

There's a tiger here, as Matali says you need to identify what that is.

If you haven't seen it we have a selection of other's experiences with 10 uc here you may like to read

How things worked out for others isn't an absolute guide for what 10uc means for you specifically here but it can offer the sense of how it felt for others.

It can help to look more closely at the Image with an unchanging answer. Here it says -

'Heaven above, lake below. Treading.
The noble one (foic29) differentiates above and below,
And sets right the purpose of the ordinary people.'

That last line is quite interesting isn't? How does the noble one 'set right the purpose of the ordinary people' ? Surely most of us think we are 'the ordinary people'.... but it does seem to be referring to setting priorities straight perhaps. As Matali said the complementary hexagram is 15 also concerned with realistic priorities, one makes sure one weighs thing proportionately in 15. And 10 is the opposite/complement (info on that here) so if 15 seeks to balance the high and the low 10 is actually clearly distinguish what is high and low. Nothing makes one need to do that more than the tiger! If I meet a tiger there is no questions about equality here, she won't care about my pov, she has the power and if I don't reckon with the danger I will get bitten.

If I take that last line of the Image literally as a guide for how you can help your community it could be things where you help others negotiate with authorities? For example welfare rights, Citizen Advice (who always need volunteers here in the UK) people who are taking on big authorities, there is a lot of work to be done there for sure. Often the most vulnerable people who most need help from the welfare system are at a disadvantage in trying to claim it for various reasons. It's worth pondering the Image anyway.

My very first thought when reading the thread however before considering the Image was that you may need to rethink the question perhaps because this answer is suggesting caution. What if the tiger here is your own capacities/energies/health? Before going forward to offer your services either in paid or unpaid work maybe you need to consider what you can cope with? I mean cope with emotionally, physically and in terms of stress.

Thank you Trojina for your kind and imspiring words,

i sure will think about them.
In the meantime my own reflection process continues. So far as i can see, the tiger is also a symbol for (strong) emotion. As i mentioned i am a lot into leadership questions, both as being myself a (temporary) leader as a coach/supervisor and having to do a lot with real leaders in coaching settings.
And there are some people who say that one core competence if not the most important one being a leader is the ability to regulate ones own emotions, namely selfregulation.
And for me it is especially true, because as a consultant i get into emotional difficult situations regularly and more than once i couldnt handle my emotions properly. So i guess this is another important hint here: Practice the ability of selfregulation. As one can see nowadays leaders who are not able to do that are quite a big threat to their community or even to the world.

What is my needed contribution for the benefit of the world? 10 UC

Hi foic29

For the benefit of the world your needed contribution, as a leader, is to confidently build the awareness of yourself and others in order to better maintain a balanced individual perspective. Especially when difficult aspects of personal growth are embraced and the necessary movement into new pastures made.

Obstacles for you on this path could well be related to self leadership and developing an authentic approach to life. One where you are able to comfortably stand in your power. A place where you fully trust your own authority, such that you are freely able to speak your truth and then beyond that to align your behaviours with your words.

I'd say that this aligns well with your opening statement " The hexagram 10 UC "Walking on the tiger's tail" is probably a tip to find your own way. A symbol to identify the path that is yours and the paths that belong to others. Discriminate. "

...of course this may not mean anything like this for you.

Take Care

Thank you my_key for your response!

I find your words inspiring, especially those: „A place where you fully trust your own authority, such that you are freely able to speak your truth and then beyond that to align your behaviours with your words.“ -

In the meantime to my own mind cMe the question about the meaning of the trigramms: there is lake (joy) as the lower trigramm and heaven (strength) at the upper side.
Nobody mentioned this lake-like aspect of the hexagramm 10. What does it stand for?
Could there also be a joyful quality in meeting (the strength of) the tiger?

On the other side there is a real potential threat (the tiger bites), so at the same time joy and fear of doing something wrong? There seems to be quite a huge contradiction here as far as i can see…

The longer i read all of your words here in this thread, think and meditate about hex 10, the deeper it gets.

Thank you all for your interest and kind contributions.
