I use tenuki in everyday life, especially in gardening.

As a Westerner, I once stopped into a local Korean Baduk club. One of the regulars challenged me to a game, he was maybe a 1 kyu. He began the game in the harsh (stereo) typical Korean style, slamming each stone onto the board, as if thunder would undo my focus. (poor guy didn't know that thunder has the opposite effect on me) One hundred+ moves later, when his eyeless dragon was captured, he completed the rest of the game in the (stereo) typical Japanese style: Respectful & gentle, each stone placed as if a whisper. He transformed from a 51 manner to 57 manner in an instant. I held my laughter until I left, in order to let him keep his dignity in front of his friends.
