Dear I Ching Community,

I post this yesterday, but didn't get any answer. I will insist once more because I really want to clarify what is trying to say me life through this expereience. With understanding and gratitude I would like to turn the page and make of this a life lesson

So this is the matter:

After 8 years of being an architecture professor at the university this new academic year they have not summoned me and they have not given me explanations about the decision they have made. It affected me because the idea I had about my work there was good even though the experience in last two years had some problems regarding the relationship with other teachers. Without delving into a perspective of authorities abuse or making me a victim of the sitation, I asked IChing what should I learn from this situation and the answer was 9.4 to 1. Then I asked what the purpose of this experience was and the answer was 50.3.4 to 4.
I have to mention that although I enjoy teaching, I don't feel that I am where I should be. I also teach in other universities.

Can someone please, help me to make a good interpretation with this results?

Thank you so much.

Hexagram 9. The Decision:
The wind drives accross heaven:
The image of the TAMING POWER OF THE SMALL.
Thus the superior man
Refines the outward aspects of his nature.
You are in the inferior/weaker position and should perhaps focus on improving yourself.

Six in the fouth place means:
If you are sincere, blood vanishes and fear gives way.
No blame.
Sometimes, when you are in a subordinate position, you have to deal with unfair leadership. Maybe you need to be more tactful next time. I don't know for sure; you were pretty vague.

Hexagram 1. The Decision:
THE CREATIVE works sublime success,
Furthering through perseverance.
The Image:
The movement of heaven is full of power.
Thus the superior man makes himself strong and untiring.
The relating hexagram, for some reason, reminds me of a quote from Wayne Dyer:

If you got fired from a job,
then that's the universe's way of telling you, 'You've been doing this long enough.'
I can't remember if this is the exact quote I heard, but this sounds similar; and you allude to this in your remarks about not feeling like you are doing what you "should be."

I'll come back to your second question if I have the energy for it later.

Thank you so much for your kind reply Sun Wukong. Do you have an interpretation of the other question?

Someone else?

Hello Dasso17, 50.3.4|4

The vessel might mean to turn the page, to change, to renew yourself and your life after an experience of radical change. A new orientation.

50.3 can mean - not to understand things, or that people don't understand you, an alienation, a misunderstanding - as it happens when a vessel gets repaired or a person changes her outlook and position in life: "The vessel's ears are changed, it's action stopped" This will pass!
50.4: "The vessel's legs break off, dignity soiled ..." Better to find out what went wrong. People around you are unfair, or the place simply wasn't good enough for you; or vice versa. Authorities don't trust you, or you didn't trust your authorities. What about your listeners and pupils?

The relating hexagram 4 relates to teaching and learning.

With changing lines 3 and 4 together in general, you'll probably find the answer in your heart. Maybe it is trust issues. Or it is that you have different aims and purposes...

All the very best,

Mandarine
