What work can I do to achieve all my goals Hex 31 unchanging

Hi all,

Need help with this one. I've been working for the govt looking after young ones but spending too much time away from my own family...furthermore I spent less time at gym/eating healthy and I want to return to a healthier balanced lifestyle with my family so seeking self employment.

I want to start on a health/wellness and bodybuilding journey and help others to do the same - asked IChing , What work can I do to achieve all my goals - goals include being physically, spiritually, emotionally, mentally, financially free and healthy - to own a home and run a retreat for mother/daughters/sisters etc

Hexagram 31 unchanging is the answer to my question...Influence - motivational speaking and marketing/role modeling a health, wellness and bodybuilding lifestyle to empower women and girls perhaps?

I choose women and girls specifically as that is the gender I more easily relate to and identify with.

Any one else have other thoughts of whatc31 unchanging could mean.

You're asking for change, and what work you can do to effect change. And yet you receive an unchanging hexagram as a response. So, you don't need to change anything. Be receptive to those around you, be receptive and accepting of what's happening in your life. The time is not right for you to chase after change, it's right for you to accept and be influenced.

My question wasn’t based on asking for what I need to change in order to have the career or to do the work that is best for me to do, but rather I was seeking clarification or confirmation on the type of work that is best suited to me, so that I am able to achieve what I hope to in as many areas of my life. I would think that hexagram 2 unchanging would have come up if all I needed to do was be receptive?
So, as an actual line of work or career, how would you interpret hexagram 31 unchanging ?

I would interpret it as stay with the work/career you already have. Or maybe in this case it means that your idea of working with women is great. Or even it could be advising you to focus on relationships and getting married instead of a career. The character of 31 can mean, among other things, mouth wound, so when considering professions, dentistry also comes to mind.

31 says it's profitable to obtain/choose a woman. Wilhelm, in his commentary about the two trigrams' interaction, writes that the idea of 31 is effected by "persistent, quiet influence, the lower, rigid trigram stimulates the upper, weak trigram, which responds to this stimulation cheerfully and joyously". The Image advises to be 虛 (devoid of content, void, false, unreal, unoccupied, empty, vain) so as to be able to receive, endure, bear with, people. This is why I wrote about receptivity.

31 unchanging - the first one I can remember is many years back, before I'd experienced bereavement at all, when a friend suffered a miscarriage. Her husband was about to arrive at the door to give me a lift; I asked for help, and had 31 unchanging. I concentrated on the Image, said next to nothing and 'made space' for him. I think this had to do with being available, too, rather than caught up in ideas of how I ought to be responding.

Looking through the journal, I also had 31 unchanging for 'What good are affirmations?' I think that might translate as 'You're moved. (Then what?)'

OTOH, there was 31 uc as a response to 'How to work now?' Background: looking for a way that did not rely on imposing discipline on my reluctant self. So this one said, 'Be moved!'

Maybe the response is as others say, be receptive as in be moved by the right things. I think you wanted to know what field of work would be the best to start working in now if you wanted to be a home owner who runs a well-being retreat for girls/women based on your own journey in the future. That's a big question and journeys like that are less mapped out by will and more by experience and teachers and people you meet in your life I think, that's just my opinion though, that sounds like a lovely dream all the same, I wish you the best with it, maybe ask IC for something more specific if you're thinking about next steps?

Not meaning to be flippant here, but this reads like many people's all too often stated new year's resolution: how can I get everything and do everything - this year?

To which the Yi is possibly replying,

.... 'it's simple - reciprocity: achieving goals means putting in the time to achieve them, and if you have 40 hours of goal-achieving in a 24-hour day? Well, do the math .... maybe you need to make those goals fewer or more modest and actually achievable - or prioritize and work at them within an actually achievable timeframe.'

And perhaps too, a change in attitude is being suggested: that you think of your life (and your goals) in terms of building relationships over time - as you might a slow, meaningful courtship - and not so much that you need to quickly or instantly 'achieve' - or force - these connections.

It’s interesting because I’ve recently acquired four new business mentors and sponsors. They are investing their time and money into helping me succeed. I have been chosen by two different organisations that are very specific about who they choose, one not for profit and one corporate. From both I receive paid training towards self employment with a lot of guidance and support.

I actually have a meeting with three of my new mentors today.

This all happened so fast since making an inquiry with the corporate group on Boxing Day.

Edit: Thank you all for your additional insights. As Fredda suggests, this is like a courtship, not something I can or want to rush. Building connections with others quite quickly is one of my gifts, but full trust and confidence is gained over time. Actions speak louder than words, and something I need to work on is focusing on each task at hand and completing them properly and professionally to the highest standard...I need more consistency in terms of what I produce for work related endeavours. Over the last two years I’ve stayed at a lot of retreats/resorts and made friends with the owners, all have been interested in my story/goals.

I may have been born into a low income family but a lot of my newest friends worked hard for their wealth and/or came from a higher born social class from parents etc who role modelled to them working smarter not harder. I appreciate all their positive support and influence in my life.
