... I must point, however, that in the Journal Asiatique (Paris, 1897, 9th series, t. IX pp, 285-287), Charles de Harlez describes a system of mutations as different from Wilhelm's as it is from Yuan Kuang's... I'm still hunting for those darn two pages of the freaking journal...

Hy, Luis:

In the BNF Gallica Library there is not a 1897 volume for the Journal Asiatique. Do you have another source or reference for the mutation system described by De Harlez?

Un abrazo,

Charly

The Daoist sage and Yi scholar Chen Tuan (10th cent CE)
http://www.eng.taoism.org.hk/general-daoism/eminent-philosophers&accomplished-daoists/pg1-4-22.asp
was a later member of this line and had a huge impact on Sung philosophy through both Shao Yong and Zhou Dunyi. He is credited with transmitting or originating the Wujitu or Diagram of Ultimate Nothing (Fig 39 in my Dimensions chapter), which in Zhou Dunyi's hands became the Taijitu (Fig 40). It is my hypothesis that in turn this diagram had a serious impact on Western Magic and Theurgy when it was taken to Europe by the Arabs in the Tenth or Eleventh Century and got transformed into the Otz Hhayyim or Tree of Life of the Hermetic QBLH tradition.

Hola Charly,

I'm afraid not. The only reference I have comes from the book I cited. I'll keep looking...

Interesting. There recently was a discussion in the China History Forum about the Crusades accounts in China of the time and how news seeped in and out through merchants and travelers. There use to be a significant Jewish community in Kaifeng, China, before and after the time suggested and I wonder if there is some connection there too.
