This reading prompted me to finally join the community and share, and also request some feedback pleasešŸŒž though I've been using the site for yonks... seldom asking a question, but rather exploring the Oracle, as I'm a lifelong I Ching enthusiast.

This time I went the direct route, as I'm currently caught in an incredibly intense intrigue / imbroglio, and the gossip swirling around about me is off the charts. It's not a new experience to be gossiped about and opposed: however, this time, everyone seems to be buying the lies and rumours, and I've been completely cut off, including by many people whom I considered friends. I certainly met my match this time! I'd taken someone on in the workplace, my department head, and came off second best, was dismissed, but it didn't end there... the lies and gossip followed, began by this wily individual.

The Yao Text is to the point, corrective and encouraging:
'It is not for you to dominate,
No mistake.'

Would you consider yourself to have a stronger work ethic than your co-workers? Anyway the advice here seems to be that 14.4 your reward comes from focusing on the job and doing it well and thus you are 26. a role model, for the others a teacher who teaches not with speeches but by setting a good example.
So basically are you doing your job so well itā€™s making the others look bad? Ha! Make a t-shirt saying ā€œDonā€™t hate me because Iā€™m beautiful!ā€

How did you guess I am a teacher Rosada? Very intuitive of you. Yes indeed, I could wear that t-shirt! And I got a similiar sense from the reading, to own it, and to realise I'll never dominate workplace politics, so to let it be. It doesn't energise me at all, as it seems to energise others. Might even be the time to strike out on my own, be my own boss, open my own studio... because my extreme work ethic and the excellence of my work tends to rouse the lazy and incompetent against me. You hit the nail on the head there.

You sound like me in my workplaces! If you can work for yourself definitely do that!!

You asked why is there gossip...well, if someone at a workplace fights with their boss and is dismissed, it'd be a miracle if there wasn't gossip, right? The more drama, the more gossip. Maybe people figure if you'd been right, you would have won the argument and not been fired. (Although of course that could be untrue.)

It might be worth it, though, if you're able to do something better for yourself. :)

By the way, 14.4 is encouraging? It doesn't sound that way to me, but I think I've misunderstood this line before, so maybe I still am.

Thanks for this Liselle. My take is indeed positive because the 4th line is under the host, a yang under a yin line, but it can't dominate so it yields, it becomes still like a mountain and this is changing to the great gua... it's all in the details... I didn't leave kicking and screaming but with good spirit and goodwill from my superiors. It was a fair fight between my HoD and I and something of a pyrrhic victory for him, hence the need to create rumours, that top management told me to ignore. Still hurts though when people shun you. The cool part is learning who your true friends are. This also speaks to the preceding gua to 26, "heaven over thunder", also it's inverse, translated as "without falsehood" by Huang. I'm glad to understand better why it doesn't make any sense to counter the gossip, but to let it be, because I'm not meant to dominate the situation. I'm instead meant to move on.

Hi Hutchi
I like Huang's name for 14 'Great Harvest'. Your situation takes on a different perspective when this name is used (Possession in Great Measure is particularly dry in my world), especially with 14.4 signposting 26 'Great Accumulation', which advises you not to eat at home. So look for something with more nourishment than your regular daily fayre. This will direct you through remaining clear about what is really going on in this situation and to not overstep the mark in how you conduct yourself or be drawn into the chaos being generated around you. Combining these in your approach is leading you towards a rewarding outcome.

It sounds, from your posts, like you already have a good handle on this situation.

Good Luck

Good points, thanks. It's always so important to be careful not to overstep... I tend to do so and need to make conscious choices not to. The "eating at home" lines in the decisions, where they appear, have always puzzled me. I don't think I'm yet understanding that idiom.

Huang is definitive. But I love Hilary's interpretations that keep me coming back to this site. And it's been a good experience sharing this reading and getting such great feedback šŸ¦‹

Thanks for all the replies. Something that has been prompted in me by our dialogue here: how we tend to overlook the fact that the I Ching was borne from King Wen's opposition to the tyranny of the Zhou Dynasty... that the Confucian emphasis on compliance isn't the only guidance the text offers... that it speaks directly to situations of conflict. My reading for the journey home is (retreat) 33 to (traveler) 56... a very sweet one. No tail between my legs feeling. Grateful to the Oracle. 56 is a dear friend (fire on the mountain). Also been literally in the mountains on a retreat the last two weeks before traveling... Honour the I Ching and it will speak with clarity šŸ‘£
