Will I realize love in new year?28<>40

I wish you a merry Christmas.

I asked Yi if I will/could realize love in 2024. and the answer was H28.3.5.<>H40

(I have been single for a long time now and wonder if love (in a form of emotional relationship/someone I like and who likes me could be realized in the new year). I have someone on my mind (someone I would like to be with nowadays) but the question was general and open to possibilities.

I understood it like something is "too much" (H28) and it cannot go like this anymore and line 3 dosn't sound good (for it says "Pitfall" ).
Line 5 talks about older woman I guess and no blame and relating hexagram 40 talks about release and freedom (to me).
I wonder how do you who have better knowledge of Yi see my reading and could you please add some of your thoughts on it if it's possible and if you might find it interesting.

Apart from your question, I don't know the circumstances (except that you state that you are single for long periods of time). So the interpretation of the answer is a bit more general. Translate it yourself where necessary to your own circumstances.

In H28, there is an excess of yang energy, too much tension, which is why the Judgement text talks about a ridge pole sagging. In the answer, that tension is further heightened by the 2 moving yang lines. Yang is thinking, being outward-looking, plans, ideas, reason, the rational.

The lower trigram Wind in H28 generates Water through the moving line at the 3rd position.
This is about not being able to realise plans and ideas, indecision, worrying about details without seeing the whole. This is because decisions are made rationally without being 100% behind them emotionally.
Water's advice here is to face fears and insecurities, to let emotions flow freely.
The Wind-Water combination advises not to bottle up emotions or push them away (rationalise them), but to express them.
The text of this line says:

H28.3
The ridgepole buckles.
Misfortune.

Here the tension has become so great that the ridge pole buckles. The burden is too heavy, so it is high time to reduce it otherwise things will go wrong.

The upper trigram Lake in H28 generates Thunder through the moving line at the 5th position.
Lake with a moving line at the 5th position cares little about its surroundings, it dare not face the real problem. Thunder gives as advice to be inspired by your environment to change behaviour, a new approach. The Lake-Thunder combination is about taking feedback from the exchange with others and applying that feedback.
The text of this line says:

H28.5
A withered willow puts forth flowers.
An old woman takes a young husband.
...

Something unexpected happens here, that what seems to have been written off (a single old woman in ancient China had a low position and no opportunity anymore for marriage ), suddenly comes to life.

H40 forms a pair together with H39. H39 deals with tension built up in response to an obstacle and H40 releases that tension.
H28.3.5 <> H40 is therefore about releasing an excess of yang energy.

The nuclear hexagrams of H28 and H40 are H1 and H63. What is remarkable about this is that all the yang lines in a yin position (2, 4 and 6) in H1 have become yin in H63. In H63, yang lines are in a yang position and yin lines are in a yin position. There is balance between yin and yang. The tension in H28 is released (H40) and there is balance.

The Yi does not directly answer your question as I see it, but rather gives advice on what to do to find love (in 2024?).

This would be my interpretatiion. As always, take what resonates and leave the rest

I agree, it could be Yi's advice on how to find love in 2024. Maybe it could also be explanation on how things in this area could develope: after releasing tension, letting emotions flow something unexpected comes to life.

I understand totally Water's advice here as you name it, not to bottle up emotions and let them flow, but I don't quite understand Thunder's advice.
Thinking about what taking feedback from the exchange and applying means... Sometimes I use to seem reserved and a bit cold on surface when I actually feel warmth for someone (they told me so).
Maybe when I follow Water's advice and stop repressing emotions I could actually show them, then I'll also be able to take and apply feedback.

Maybe releasing an excess of yang energy could be starting listening to one's heart/trust one's heart more than reason: to stop rationalising emotion and start expressing them.

28.3 If by finding love you mean meeting someone who makes you feel like you’re 16 again, at your ideal weight, capable, witty and good looking…well you may be asking for a tad too much….

On the other hand if you’re smart enough to recognize you‘re old enough to take care of yourself but still would like to meet…

28.5 a dear young man who can give you a bit of - ahem - what you need…then..

40. Of course you can release what “society” says is suitable and find love in 2024!

Thank you Rosada for replying, very interesting interpretation, especially the part that I could release what "society" finds suitable.

To me it is not about ideal weight etc. I suppose what you meant by this part is some superficial standards set by society/expectations society could be imposing on me in this case.

What was going on is that during time I turned down many suitors that others find acceptable, desirable and expect me that I should accept. I don't feel that way and I thought about it a lot. There was a lot of pressure and unease from all sides in this situation.

It is a release to be able to listen to one's heart, and I think it is the only right way. There could be some "dear young man" as you put it, that I find sweet and loving, that I would like to have a relationship with.

What I meant with my interpretation of 28.3 was it seemed to me to be saying beware of putting too much of a burden on what a relationship has to be to be suitable. Like to be conscious of what you are looking for in a relationship and don’t turn down opportunities for friendship just because a person doesn’t fulfill all your fantasies. As a friend of mine says, “He may not be my Mr. Right but he’s my Mr. Right Now.”
28.3 could also be saying you’ve got a lot on your plate in this year coming up and taking on the demands of time and energy that come with a new full on partnership could be a bit much and thus this leads to 28.5 and the suggestion to look for a nice friend who doesn’t require you rebuilding your whole life.

This is an I Ching website but I also find it’s helpful to consider what astrology has to say about our situations and this year we are experiencing Saturn leaving the sign it’s been in for the last two years and Pluto leaving the sign it’s been in for the last ten+ years, so a major sense of out with the old and then a very slow build for in with the new. Thus more of an awareness now of what we don’t want to continue but not real clarity yet of what we want to build up. Relationship-wise this can mean old friendships are morphing and maybe even ending before we see where we’re going to go from here.
