So , it feels like this is talking about your wish to communicate and it yet may be mutual...but perhaps you think it is best to kep for yourself, thinking he feels the same way too.

I am assuming you WANT your ex to come toward you, correct? And not stay away?
I view the lines 1,2 as positive, according to various translations (Legge, Wilhelm, Eclectic energies, Emotional I Ching, Lynn).

Here is one view of these lines, very positive, and of course H16 speaks of Enthusiasm:

58. Exchange

Line 1:

Harmonious exchange.
Good fortune.

An exchange that is beneficial for both parties. It goes well.

Line 2:

Trustworthy exchange.
Good fortune.
Aversion goes away.

An exchange that can be trusted. It goes well. Initial aversion to it will go away.

Line 5:

Confidence in the removal of the danger that is there.

Relying on removing the danger that is there.

I misread the last changing line - 6th for 5th
but it kinda accentuates the possibility of too much trust/expectation putting towards him, I am afraid...to me 6th line sounds like seduction, 5th like a bad influence...stay yourself, I see no problem in that
