I looked back in my journal for previous readings where I had 52uc. I seem to have had it a number of times on asking vague questions about how to get more money. Seems it wasn't the thing to be troubling about at those times. Other times it's been simple and literal. Keep Still. Asking if I should do this or that 52uc has been 'no'. One time I asked about wanting release from an old situation and got 52uc. 52uc as an answer was plain and simple.

I don't think I have ever been left confused on receiving 52uc. Generally it is a welcome relief of an answer. To me it seems especially emphatic and clear in it's unchanging form. You go on as if nothing affected you. There is no need to try to make an impact on anything at this time or even engage with or react to anything outside of yourself. You can stop.

Re the situation I wanted to be free of...well I couldn't so all I could do was to settle like a mountain, within myself and in doing so found some peace with that. I particularly recall how that 52uc answer made me feel different...as if the answer itself settled me.


Any clear recollections of 52uc for you ?

Many years ago, when I was a teenager, I came down with a set of sudden and debilitating, but mysterious, symptoms. I don't want to be too specific, but I was bedridden and in very bad shape. Doctors diagnosed me with something lousy but non-life threatening, and implied that the worst of it was maybe in my head. Deep down I had the sense, at the time, that they were wrong and actually my life was in grave danger, but I was very young and didn't know how to communicate this to them without seeming attention hungry or daft.

So, I turned to the I Ching. And in my bed, in pain, and very scared, I relentlessly bothered Yi for an answer. In hindsight, the oracle was extraordinarily patient with me! And uncannily consistent. No matter what I asked relating to my illness, I received 52 (Keeping Still) in some permutation, but often unchanging. I was using coins, and out of fear I was somehow influencing the result subconsciously with the way I was throwing, I even sent someone out to buy yarrow stalks for me. It's the only time in my life I've used the stalks-- and they too gave me 52. Over and over. I assumed Yi was reflecting my own situation back at me (I could not get out of bed without great difficulty, and was in excruciating pain), and telling me to take it in stride. This was also a time before the internet was widely available, and I couldn't easily google my symptoms or learn about possible other diagnoses. I was really stuck with whatever doctors told me, even though I felt something more was wrong.

Several months passed and slowly I got better. Eventually I was able to resume school and life, and put it all behind me.

Then, several years later, by chance, while undergoing an examination for something minor, doctors discovered evidence of what had actually been wrong with me that time--and it had indeed been life threatening. I had been misdiagnosed, and I'm very lucky that my body was able to heal itself on its own, as what I had has a high rate of mortality when acute. It's the luckiest I've ever been in my life.

Now, in light of that info, what was Yi saying with 52? Well, the condition I had could have been made worse by movement. So, in a very basic way, I think Yi was telling me "don't move". Also, although 12 (stagnation) in hindsight seems like a more immediately understandable picture of the illness itself, 52 is not far off either.

As soon as I knew what had been wrong with me, what I had survived, and also remembered 52, I felt an extraordinary rush of tenderness and gratitude to the oracle. It had, in the way it saw best, been trying to explain to me what was wrong, and 52 was a crystal clear image of it. But at the time of the actual event, I couldn't understand it. I lacked the capacity to fully interpret what it was telling me. And for whatever reason, it was not interested in trying to convey to me that I should be seeking out more doctors, a better diagnosis, etc. (And I did, after all, survive it and heal on my own--maybe the oracle knew that I would.)

As soon as the acute phase of the illness passed, so did the dozens of (mostly unchanging) 52s, and I've rarely received 52 since!

I've had a fairly turbulent month: a complex work situation, a close friend's strange and frightening illness, some family complications, and (it seems) a relationship ending, amicably but very sadly. I've been doing lots of readings throughout.

Today things feel relatively stable. I took the opportunity to ask how well I'd been doing recently at interpreting readings and following advice, and got 52 unchanging. Looking at the WikiWing right now, I see:

"Sequence and Pair: Hexagram 51, Shock. Why is it not a mistake not to grasp your self or see your people? Because you are responding to the chaos of Shock, damping down the vibrations, stopping the series of reactions-to-reactions-to-reactions, restoring equilibrium."
"Nuclear hexagram: Hexagram 40, Release. When you come to a complete standstill, when you are no longer carried in one direction or another by the shockwaves from 51, then you are genuinely free to choose your own direction."

Well, exactly. Seems to be a description of the state of things rather than a reference to my readings and interpretation, though there's also this: "I think this can also refer to enquiring/speculating too much about where one might be headed, instead of simply being present."

It seems to me Yi may be saying you need not trouble yourself about how well you have been doing at following readings.

Where are my boots? Tucked away under my mother's bedroom dresser, apart from all the other shoes. In their courtyard and not seeing their people. Funny that the stack of lines do resemble a chest of drawers.

I got hex 52 today in response to a health issue and thought that given Mulberrys post above, it would be good to post here.

I have had an increasingly worsening issue - stress related no doubt, but none the less two weeks ago it became quite severe. I was sent for blood tests, and sent as an urgent case to a specialist. I have been diagnosed with a rare condition (very rare actually). I have been given the usual medication, but I have a real suspicion it has a link to my digestion. I really prayed for guidance here and walking into the library in the new section was a book - your gut and health ...I then went into a health shop and they were giving away some kefir and powder, free with £10 spend. I have just looked at the book and guess what - kefir is the best superfood for my condition.

I asked just now - what about my ailment and got 52 stilling - and it links in very well with Mulberry. My gut does feel very churned and active, as if it doesnt like what I am giving it. It needs to still, be less active perhaps?

Mullbery's story was very interesting and all of the posts made sense to me, I received this recently after working really hard and improving a situation with my business.

It was almost like a reward in hindsight. Like don't buy into it and that includes celebrations, as I was saying dont buy into it, what ever IT is, pace yourself, take time to think. It is I think quite an auspicious cast, you own the mountain currently, so close the gates and dont let anything in. Stay as you are for now.

I was at first a little confused on the controlling yourself aspect of 52, in the way hexagram 34 can ask for self control. I suppose you are not controlling a power of sorts. I see 52 relates to meditation, i suppose if you asked a guru it is quite powerful thing to control. (meditation)

Can anyone enlighten me on the self controlling side of this hexagram as opposed to hexagram 34. I think I understand, I feel have a good grip on 52 of late however deep down there are urges trying to force their way up underneath the mountain so to speak.

However I am really enjoying the 52 scene at the moment

I had 52 unchanging when asked "What I am for A" (A is a very dear friend of mine I love but never have been in a romantic relationship with. Wish I be someday).
I felt our friendship was lasting and solid. It had the potential to be developed on firm foundations, and it did. I realized that when I met him after a long time and all the sweetness and confidence was still there, if not increased. He confided things about his life to me he didn't to older friends ... and backed me when others didn't. So the I Ching said that I was a "reliable friend" for him.
Another interesting point is our shared activity: mountain climbing. In fact we got close because of it. He reminds me of mountains (the mountains remind me of him, too) and the beautiful memories we had there. He also has posted several photos of those days on his social media and referred to them as incredible memories...
And the hexagram shows two mountains- we seeing each other as "fellow mountain climbers".

Another time I got 52 was when I asked "How should I save the light of love inside me?"
Sounded like I should take care of this flame and keep it alive. It was more of an internal work indeed- no need to "see other people" at the time.

So, for me, the message of 52th hexagram is rather positive, like:
"The situation is stable- like a mountain"
"Keep on the things as you do. Good job!"
"There is something good there. Conserve it!"
"Gather yourself- no need to worry!"

This was my favorite, too. Impeccable.

That is insanely beautiful and divine!Sometimes wisdom is easier to absorb when we have no idea of the stakes at hand. I just received 52UC about staying at my job and this thread is everything I needed to calm me after a bit of aggravation during the day.

Yesterday I achieved a long-term, life-changing goal. The impact on myself and my family (two cats) will be huge but it hasn't sunk in yet. For my daily reading I received 52UC. I have no record of ever having received 52UC before. Perhaps the reading suggests that I remain still and simply absorb the new reality? The two cats seem remarkably calm this morning, possibly because I'm neither hung over from alcohol nor infusing the environment with stress as I try to "get everything done" before work. In fact, I may not work today. Or maybe I will. However, the compulsion to fill every moment with "productive" activity seems absent right now.

Congratulations on your moderation. Lately I've been having one beer in the evening and not indulging in any more than that.

Today I returned to this thread because my cat seemingly ate some tape or paper from a delivery box this morning. "How can I best care for her?" 52 UC

Kitty seems fine (affectionate, just ate breakfast) but of course I will keep an extra close eye on her. I'm assuming that 52UC in this instance means that I should stay calm, stay nearby, and not do anything drastic like rush her to the vet. Fortunately I'm working close to home today and can return here as much as needed to check on her. I will update if there are any developments.

I would like to share a counter intuitive experience with 52UC, which to me has usually been « stop, keep still, do nothing, centre yourself ».
I was feeling uneasy about the price of a handmade, unique decorative item I had bought online, because my friends were telling me I was crazy. But I really liked it! After going around many loops of should I keep it, return it, ask for more info etc… I kept getting 52UC to every « what if I do this » option. I couldn’t determine if it was
a) advice: still your thoughts, stop worrying or
b) outcome: it will help you achieve serenity over this matter.
I decided that I had nothing to lose and everything to gain by asking for more information on how the seller had set the price, while I still had the option of returning it.
Well the seller was more than happy to share all the necessary info. And I instantly felt at peace with my decision to keep it. So in this case, it was b). outcome.

Update: it has now been 3 years, I not only kept the item but it has pride of place in my living room and I really enjoy it. So maybe 52UC was saying: stop worrying about it, calm down, find inner stillness and you will know how you feel about it. Although that could also be 61ish…

I received several 52uc casts in regards to my grandmother who's health was incredibly poor at the time, so much so she was in the hospital and it seemed she was likely to die any moment. When I made those casts she was definitely at her worst so I assumed it meant she wouldn't be "coming forth from her situation", in other words she wouldn't get better and we should expect for the worst.

However after a month or so her health got better and she was moving around again. This was about two years ago and she's only gotten better since then. My guess is it had to do with keeping here still, reducing any major exertions for her so she can recover.

Also it may have been addressing you, 52 does advise not to let one's thoughts project ahead of or beyond a situation.

It's incredible what elderly people can recover from. I've seen it a number of times over the last few years. You can't keep them down they bounce back !

52.0 as a response to “why haven’t I heard from him yet?” Someone who was supposed to get back to me about a large sum of money and had not contacted me when he said he would.

I took it to mean, “hold your horses. All is well. Sit tight. Don’t let your mind churn and turn needlessly towards anxiety. Still your mind and self. You’ll hear from him soon.”

It was like 30 mins later I heard from him after I had texted. There was no need to text, and I asked after I had with no quick response. There was no need to worry. I could chill. He came through and we completed our business.
