Just concentrate on 48.5 and ignore 18. You can do that with one active line, as far as I'm concerned.

It's one of two things: either these thoughts about him that continue to come up in your mind are a clear, refreshing source of inspiration and energy, or asking the question about why it's happening will yield a clear, refreshing source of inspiration and energy. I suspect the latter.

Go into this issue, go deep. You'll get a lot out of it.

hex 48.5 says the well is clear and fed by a spring. Therefore, drink form the well and gain the wisdom to overcome your thoughts of B. Here it says that you must help yourself first, make your mind clear. you cannot help others until you have sorted your own life out.

hex 46 says you will should progress slowly, step by step, everyday growing away from the thoughts of B, everytime you meet an obstacle, just go around it.You are like a plant, growing stronger day by day, looking for the light that will release you from B, to give you the freedom to be yourself once again. This is all about growing, growing away from him, growing to be a stronger person. Be persistent, heal yourself, and you will win. If you need help never hesitate to ask for it, sometimes two heads are better than one.

People have different opinions about how significant it is. (There's a *wide* range of opinion lol.) My opinion is that the fewer active lines there are in a hexagram, the more emphasis you put on the first hexagram, the one you drew when you tossed the coins, and the less emphasis you put on the second one, the relating hexagram you get when you convert the active lines to their opposite. But why don't you find out what's true for *you* and look at the meaning of Hex 46 and see if anything useful comes up for you. Hex 46 talks about rising up to a higher level than you're at now. So, one way to read 48.5>46 would be something like: "Go deeply into this issue and you'll get a lot of inspiration and energy from it, and you'll rise to a new level of understanding or a even a new level of being thereby."

I like the core of Willowfox's reading too.

46: The roots (lower trigram wood/wind) are still there, hidden in the earth, beneath the surface.
Although the relationship has ended outwardly it (and he) still exists in the deeper mind.

48: And what is beneath the surface is brought to the surface.

Now this looks to me as if these thoughts about him don't just surface of their own. Perhaps a change of perspective is required. It appears that you are merely passive and that these thoughts 'happen' to you. But 48 (and line 5) suggests that you are in fact actively involved in bringing them to the surface, in their creation.

I think if you recognize that and see how you do it you will also be able to stop doing it. If you like ..

Fiddling around with why you have been able to release these sort of characters in the past and why this man is still in your head...Rereading your opening words and your idea that this guy is a jerk,
[roughly speaking, I know you didn't really call him this, I'm just trying to make a point]
and even the old you would not have tolerated jerks, yet the new you, who is a much more concious, aware person, can't get this guy out of your head. It occurs to me that only the old you would evaluate this fellow as a jerk, so calling him a jerk only works for the old you. The person you are today knows there is good in everyone, there are no accidents, you attract your mirror image, or whatever, but the point is, that simple ejection switch that's worked for you in the past may not work today because you have grown beyond that sort of thinking. You can't ignor the extending circumstances, his tragic childhood, your part in the break up etc. etc. So maybe the new more enlightened you can't use the same methods to get over him as have worked for you in the past. You know too much.
Perhaps as you do go through more gradual slow growth healing as discribed in 46 (really liked your interpretation, Willowfox.), you will be observing things, learning things about yourself and life that you really need to know to be able to go further with your life purpose.
One trick I've found useful when anything goes not according to plan, is to repeat the mantra, "There is good in this, there is good in this" over and over and Lo! You wake up in the morning and it's as if your unconcious has gone deep within and found something inside you that ressonates with this dominant thought and brings it to the surface(48). It's as if your unconcious has rearranged your evaluation of events to support your belief that there is good here, and suddenly you do see the good, the higher purpose, and you are able to align yourself with it. (You do not need to know what the good is. Just affirm that it is, your unconcious will find it and bring it to the surface.)
Of course, chocolet ice cream always helps too!

Seems to be a transference issue. There is an emotion 'in' you that has no history attached - it comes from some projection of his where the emotions of that projection are now sharing space with yours! Intrusive thoughts? overwhelming feeling? What happens is he can project but not tell - in this process the emotions of the projection will appear on his face/eyes etc and your emotions will pick it up unconsciously.

We 'pick' on these as we 'pick' a scab. That said, it is not all 'passive' - there is a 'wholeness' issue operating where your experience reflects your susceptability to such emotions in general - gets into the 'tuning' thing - play the 'right' note and you will resonate without consciousness involved and so it gets a little 'distressed' with the resonance having no 'logic'.

The Emotional IC may be able to help in identifying the issue/emotion 'resonating' etc.

Hi all,
Thank you all for your kindness and time. Its all good advice. I now see hex 48 in whole new light. Tonight, I asked Yi "what will happen to us if I give up on B?". The answer 24 unchanging.

So, I read that by forgetting about him, I will return to my path and he will too and we will meet again if the paths are the same. Maybe not. But 24 is a good thing.

When I asked "what will happen to us if I still hold on to hope for B?". The answering hex is 48 (see, 48 again) unchanging. I read this as something that is deep which will require a lot of effort (provided you have a bucket and a rope thats long enough)and patience and strength to bring to the surface.

Well, I prefer 24.

Chris, EMotional Iching sounds intriguing and interesting. I can't say that I understand it fully from initial reading but will look at it deeper another time. Its late and my eyelids are dropping. Thank you for making me aware of this. I think Karcher plays with this a little in his "Total I Ching" book.

The I Ching is a metaphor for describing what our brains work with in processing ''all there is".

There is no 'random/miraculous' dynamics involved, there is no 'divination' - there IS derivation of a hexagram describing the current context via interpretation of that context by our emotions ('outside' of consciousness).

It is still a 'work in progress' but the current format works enough to be useful.
