This morning, I asked the Yi: "What can I expect of the romantic relationship between "her" and I?" The Yi answered with 2 unchanging.

Initially, I take this as a positive response. But I am confused over the references to directions: "It is favorable to find friends in the west and south, To forego friends in the east and north."?

Does anyone have any insight into this reading?

Just in case the commentary could be usefully:

1.- Acording with traditional teachings, what can you expect? it will depend on your own conduct. If you try to lead "her" (other meanings.. to domine her... to force her... to punish her.. and so on) you'll loose yourself and your relation. But if you act softly (listeing... following.... acepting her... and so on) good fortune will arrive at the end.


2.- Now, according whit Xiang Shu Yi Xue

Hexagram 2 is a "Total Conflict" hexagram. In relationsihps means angry, conflict. If the "Total Conflict" is permanent (because is in 2nd hexagram, or no movement hexagram) means breaking-up.

But, as Herman said in his review of Raymond Lo's book, there is exceptions. One of them is: if one quiet line is in conflict with the day when you ask the question, and this quiet line is supported by the month, then this quiet line will be moving.

In your case, IF you did the question on 25/08/2005, this is Monkey month (metal) and Snake day (fire). In hexagram 2, line 5 is Pig (water). Pig is in conflict whit snake; and Metal of month produces water of pig. So, line 5 will be moving

So, IN CASE the question was made on 25/08/2005, there will be an active line (line 5). Line 5 belongs to the upper trigram (and you are in the upper trigram, line 6). So is your movement. Water produces wood (and wood is in line 3, and IS "her"). So, you will made a movement supporting her.

So, acording with Xiang Shu Yi Xue, there is actually a serious conflict between you and "her". There is a real risk of breaking-up the romantic relationsihp; but IF you moves to benefit her (supporting her), this "Total Conflict" will no be permanent... so you can save the relationsihip

I wonder whether the answer 'takes into account' what system you had in mind when you asked. The words of hexagram 2 aren't about 'total conflict' (apart from line 6, perhaps), so this is at least one example where Xiang Shu and the text give very different answers. Maybe the real answer depends on which method the querent was using?

A romantic relationship that's Earth, unchanging... a big field of possibilities, wide open to support growth of all kinds. If this is also advice to you, then exactly as Jesed says, it's advice to accept, follow and respond. To be her 'earth'.

My own practice (and Jospeh Yu's practice) is that both metods give very similar interpretations. In my own case: Xiang Shu Yi Xue helps to understand better the Traditional interpretation when this late metod is confuse.


In Donjuan's case:
a)Both the Traditional and Xiang Shu Yi Xue metods are saying: "you most support her". So, Xiang Shu Yi Xue helps us to look closely this advice of traditional interpretation

b) Another thing, according with Xiang Shu Yi Xue, in hexagram 2 the "Subject Line" is the 6 line. It's represents the consultant (Donjuan). And in Traditional metod, Line 6 is showing two dragons fighting (if 2 dragons are fighting there is a total conflict, isn't?).

Earth is all about being here on the earth, living, trusting, surrendering to the laws of nature. It is the base of a good warm life, and also of a good warm relationship. In the chakra's it is the root chakra, when that one is ok, there is no fear or worry. The entire building relies on it, of your body, of your life, of your relation.

If you can give that to your relationship, not surrendering to each other as a person, but both surrendering to these deep laws of life, then you lay the base for the most rewarding union possible.

Getting this hexagram seems to me the best which can happen to you. It is a great promise, as if Yi trusts you both to make your marriage really good. In all respects.

I thank you all for your interpretations. I have found them all to be very insightful and relevant to my situation. However, read on! This gets interesting!

I just asked the Yi about the realization of my dreams for "her" and I. The answer was astounding (in light of my previous answer):

Hexagram 1 - no lines changing!

Heaven? Is this to be something that is heaven-sent? Or something as if is was ordained from above? But I am puzzled, if not somewhat bothered by the fact that it is the "opposite" of the answer to a previous asked question about the same topic! (Hex 2!) Does this counter my previous answer? I have to admit, I am a bit worried about this!
As usual, I would appreciate any insight into this answer. In light of the previous answer I need to know what this means for us!

That is interesting. Since "realization of my dreams.." was your question, hex. 1 could say that in order to realize a dream you first must have one. So if you two don't already have a dream, create one together.

Actually the question was worded more as "Will my dreams about the relationship between "her" and I come true?".

I know, not good to ask the Yi a YES/NO question. But I could not think of another way to ask it!

According with Traditional Teachings: Success IF you learn the way of the Sage.

Every hexagram wich duplicate a trigram is a Secuencial hexagram. That means that each line is a secuenctial step of learning you must fullfil. You must internalize each line, in it's own proper time.

In this case, from a hidden dragon to a dragon who flies to Heaven. And everytime, in secuencial hexagrams, line 6 is a warning. In this case, avoid arrogance.

So, according with traditional teachings, there is a high chance to get your dreams. But you have 1 year to learn in order to get them.

Hexagram 1 have a 405 days period of learning. Started in second week of June, 2005; and will end on July 2006:
1.- From second week of June to second week of August, is the line 1 (hidden dragon: you was feelling as you can't do anything to get your dreamns; actually, you couldn't???)

2.- From second week of August to second week of October, is line 2. You must learn in this period from the dragon that flies over the ground. And, you should meet a noble (or specialist, or master...)

3.- From second week of October to second week of December, is line 3. Time to be active but carefull about temtations

4.- From second week of December to second week of February 2006 is line 4. Time to take direction. Time to choose your future life. If you know who you ARE, you know what TO DO.

5.- From second week of February to April 20th, is line 5. You find your inner truth, and you get the proper companion. You can now influence others.

6.- Finally, from 21th April to second week of July is line 6 You must fight against selfinesh, arrogance.....

Thank you for your response. I had no idea that Hexagram 1 had such a clearly deliniated sequence and time frame!

However, does the answer tell me what the outcome can be? I don't see that the Yi is tell me if my dreams will be realized or not.

Today, I received bad news. She has ended our romance - she wants to be "just friends". But she does want to be friends. In light of the reading of Hexagram 1, no lines changing, and your chronological reading, how does this make sense?

So, actualy you are in the breaking-up time I was talking about. Will it be permanent? No, IF you act propperly.

I had asked today (September 7, 2006) Yi Jing the next question:
WHAT IS THE ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP PROSPECT BETWEEN DONJUAN AND "HER" WITHIN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS?

Day: Horse (fire); Month: Rooster (metal); Subjetc Line: Donjuan; Object Line: "Her". Void Elements: Dragon and Snake; Answer: 59.1

INTERPRETATION:
1.- Subject Line: Is snake, under "brother" aspect (means brothers, friends) Month is "second oponent" and the line is supported by day. That means Donjuan is a friendly man, who will need to be supported in long terms.
2.- Object Line: Is Dragon, under "son" aspect (means intelligence) Combine with month and the line is produced by day. That means "her" is a strong and intelligent woman.
3.- Relationship between Subject and Object Lines: Snake produces Dragon and Dragon reduces Snake. That means Donjuan is supporting "her", but this action reduces his energy.
4.- Active Lines: there is only 1 active line. is Line 1 (that means is "her" movement). Is a weak movement (because is Tiger and wood of tiger is weak in metal months). Wood produces fire, so her movement is to benefit Donjuan. The resultan element of change is Snake (just like Donjuan is) That means her movement's consecuence is "her" supports Donjuan.
5.- Hidden elements: Ther are 2 hidden elements. Pig under aspect "Husband" and Rooster under aspect "Wife". That means right now romantic relationship prospect (see each other as husband and wife) is hidden. But pig is produced by Month (so Pig can come out of hiding) and Rooster is supported by month (so Rooster also can come out o hiding).
6.- 3 combine elements: There is no 3 combine elements.

SUMMARY
Donjuan is a friendly man, who needs to be supported by his partner in a logn term relationship. "Her" is a strong and intelligent woman.

Right now, Donjuan is supporting "her", but this is reducing his own energy.

Right now, romantic relationship prospect between Donjuan and "her" seems to be hidden

As a tendence, "her" would made a weak aproach to Donjuan (probably in next Tiger month: february 4 - March 5, 2006). It's consecuence, as a tendece, would be Donjuan having the support he needs from a partner (probably in next Snake month: May 5 - June 5, 2006)
