Thanks tiger! No nothing set in stone yet but the possibility of teaching in a school in Fuzhou, southern China has just come up, but what I'm really hoping for is a job as a writer/editor in South Korea (I'm on the short-list but they're being vague as to when they're hiring etc. They're keeping me waiting... but it might be worth it! But if I put my faith in them, it'd mean sacrificing more immediate/actual offers...)

With regards to writing, I am definitely making progress I feel, one step at a time, and it does feel good. If you fancy a read of the type of stuff I turn out you can message me for my blog address ;) (if you're not still busy!) I'm not writing long pieces or stories, but I was advised by a fellow writer that while I may not be writing what I want to write (a novel for example) I need to follow what I can do for now. I don't think she's particularly religious but she said something like maybe God wants you to do it like this, and maybe I'm working towards something more solid in the future (which is where your reference to the Prince breeding horses might come in I guess!) But before I could embark on the course, I'd need the money and acceptance...

The Ground Freezing

Em, nice to hear from you and I am looking at those blogs...I will write back lengthy thoughts when time permits. Have I ever told you of how jealous I am of your meanderings across the globe?:p

Just a word about the career in publishing...they like to start with people when they are young...they are less likely to hire you as an entry level person once you are past a certain age. I think that is what the reference to H2.1 is, where the ground is starting to freeze...If you are going down that path, you need to start sooner rather than later.

Non Reading Digression: However, I can't say I recommend that publishing path, unless you land a position in a company involved in non-print media. All the action is in "new media." If you have computer skills, and are oriented towards new publishing paradigms, there are opportunities at the right company.

I work closely with a publisher in New York, and I have seen people hired as entry level assistant types move up quickly because they were comfortable with the electronic media products, which is where all the action is. But in the end, this has little or nothing to do with writing, and it boils down to working at a large company, which is no job security these days.
