Hello again -

This time my cast seems straightforward. However I'm not "getting" who is what element in this line.

My elderly cat who has been my longtime companion, and "best friend" for many years, has advanced kidney disease, arthritis and is no longer eating without medication which is not easy to administer.

My own life situation is precarious right now. The person I am staying with and I are having difficulties - they expected me to pull my finances together faster than I have and want to have their space back ina few months (however they will not kick me out until I find elsewhere to go).

The cat has been a stress point. I worry her quality of life is poor enough now to justify putting her down, but I'm not sure if this is just me not wanting to 'deal' with administering medical care. I also worry I am mistreating her bc the amount of attention she demands. My life feels like a cycle of washing urine out of things, buying her new food, holding her, petting her, and meanwhile I am out of money and not yet employed. My heart is cold from the last several years. I no longer feel very loving and connected and find myself scolding her in a brusque tone or ignoring her when she wants on my lap, or lifting her off surfaces while she's urinating very harshly - not a kind way to treat an old cat who is in pain. She can't help her symptoms. And cats can get depressed from this.

I asked the Yi "May I have advice on how to relate to my cat/whether it is time to put her down"

55.1 is hard to parse.

Line 1:
One happens upon valuable circumstances.
Even if for ten days, without fault.
Going has value.

My first thought was - cherish the remaining time?
Thank you for any ideas on interpretation.

From WikiWing:
The commentary on the line adds, 'Going beyond 10 days is a calamity.' [...]

Making an alliance at Feng; a match between equals, created for a purpose, with a natural time-limit. It should last for that natural life-span, and then once you've got the message, you need to move on accordingly. This is something good, important - not to be taken lightly - but not for all that meant to last forever.

55 zhi Hexagram 62, Small Overstepping. Carrying the message through into reality, time to make it real within real-world constraints. Getting the message is important; losing touch with reality (the little bird flying too high) is not good.

my cat passed about two weeks after this reading, she began to decline severely and two days before her scheduled euthanasia, she gave up eating and walking.
letting her go was easy as she wasn't much there anymore in spirit. gave her a burial out in a beautiful wooded spot & am at peace with it all. she's visited a few times.

RIP Nina 🌿🌿🌿
