I am in a marriage that has been embattled almost from the start. Recently, my husband shared some embarrassing information about me to those that he knows I have no reason to trust, and in a manner that feels like a profound act of betrayal. He did it because he feels like his own reputation is compromised for reasons that have nothing to do with me. I take loyalty very seriously, and have been extremely circumspect regarding some fairly awful behavior on his part. Although I know that he did what he did out of weakness rather than malice, I don't know if I can trust him again. I drew Hex 28.2 on feeling like I could not trust him. The forum discusses this in terms of "rejuvenation" but I read on LiSe's website that it refers to the knowledge that "winter always follows summer...". Any insight is appreciated.

Perhaps give him just one more chance to prove his loyalty by applying your influence over him. Warn him.

Hello Elaine,

I believe Hex 28.2 is advising that you should care less about the opinions of others and that by adopting this mindset you will be strengthened. In this sense you do not need to be able to trust your husband in order to maintain your own integrity.

However, the issue of loyalty is important to you and I see continuing problems if the breaching of it is not addressed.

Why not explain to your husband WHY you think loyalty is so important. It may be that he just hasn't seen it from your point of view before. But if there is malice in his behaviour, then you must ask yourself if there are not other problems that need to be resolved.

I'm seeing the poplar tree as a symbol for your trust. It is withered, blighted by his betrayal, but it is not dead. If you give it a chance, new shoots will will bring new life. It won't happen overnight of course, but with patience and nourishment it can thrive again. I think that Lise's comment about summer turning to winter is a reminder that the time for growth is limited, and what you nurture now, for good or ill, will be with you for years to come.
