Hillsong Church 9.1.3.6>29?

About 2 years ago I started visiting Hillsong Church and to my great surprise I started racking up very creepy unpleasant encounters. I had heard they pray for the sick there so, I went when I was seriously ill and my life was very weakened. They made promises but revealed themselves to not be very faithful or kind in practice. Additionally, they offer a sort of “connect group” an arrangement where folks can get together outside of church. When I tried this, I had so many unpleasant encounters that finally I just gave up. (In one incident, a woman actually yanked on my hair, presumably to see if it was a wig). I have had horrific experiences in this church that leave me stunned and confused. What is going on here? Every time i cast concerning this church I get some form of 29. Danger? How can a church be dangerous? I see so many happy seeming people there, the music is great, but in my personal experience there is a some unkindness and cruelty going on there. (A certain number of leaders in this church have behaved very, very badly to me) I don’t understand this? Today I wondered why am I having problems with this church? I asked the I Ching, “Will I ever be treated well at Hillsong Church?”
I received: 9.1.3.6->29.
Should I try to volunteer?
48.3->29
Will I ever be accepted into this church?
29.2->8

Could someone help me to understand these readings? Maybe 29 here is not referring to danger but to mysticism and things unknown or unknowable? Yet I HAVE had some very unpleasant experiences. So I wish that the I Ching would address that. Any comments would be highly appreciated.

I don't have enough time this morning to think about this very thoroughly (and might not get very far if I tried, ha ha - these lines are confusing to me), but one brief notion about 9.6 might be that "Already rained, already come to rest" means you have all the information ("rain") you're going to get? The situation is "at rest" - it's not in flux?

Also, Trojina (a very long-time member here) has a helpful way of playing with texts that say "the noble one" this-and-that - filling in your own name to make it more personal. So in this case, "Noble one sets out to bring order - pitfall" becomes "Sitara sets out to bring order - pitfall." Hilary explains in her wonderful "Language of Change" glossary that "setting out to bring order" can mean trying to fix things or people. (She says a lot more than that about it, of course.)

It's possible the reading overall has some "ifs" and different possibilities in it. You could decide the situation is untenable, and leave - you surely have no obligation to stay? Or, if you want, you could perhaps decide to take what's good from it and ignore (9.3?) the rest? Go to services if you enjoy the music, be friendly with those who are friendly to you, but you can't "fix" the rest and you shouldn't try (9.6)? In other words, perhaps if you're more a superficial member rather than one with great depth (29?) or "constancy" (9.6) you might be able to find "your own (small - hexagram 9, Small Farming) path" in this church? But you won't be able to have more than that.

Overall, Yi might be saying, "here is the situation you're in, you can decide what is best for you."

Ah, and I see Moss Elk said the same thing in about half-a-dozen words. :bag: :bows:

(A friend of mine calls this "verbal diarrhea" :rofl:)

Thanks

Hi
I appreciate the feedback on this so much. A great deal of what you said here was so apt, but especially « surely, you’re under no obligation ». I then began interrogating myself : can’t I just let it go? And I have and will. But you just wonder, why are so many others enjoying it so profitably. There might be some blockage in the spiritual level. But this thread has been very educational and rewarding. I hate Hexagram 29 (and 44), so thanks for helping me tread those dark waters. I’ll sign this,
Resignedly yours,
Since I’ve resigned myself to the idea that this church is probably too conventional and has a too oppressive ideology for such a one as me. (Although I love Jesus)

Re: The crusades:
Where I’m from, we learned about the crusades when we were 8. But thanks for reminding me. Yet, however awful, the crusades could never deter me from a meaningful Christian life. War mongers will exploit any opportunity to wreak havoc. Of course, just speaking for myself.

Hex 29 is about danger that brings you success, competitive maybe but not destruction. Your sincerity compels you to act, and you flow on like water. I think of it like sparring in martial arts. It is a way you improve yourself.
29.2 says you will only get some of what you are looking for.

Should I try to volunteer?
48.3->29 You are a sincere resource that is not being used, no one knows you yet. There may be some competitiveness among the volunteers.

Will I ever be treated well at Hillsong Church?
9.1.3.6->29. Small restraint > competitiveness.

9.1 The important thing is you are true to yourself.
9.3 There is some conflict within the organization.
9.6 You will on some level succeed, but if you are overly ambitious or want more than you need it will not be good for anyone.

What Should I Re: Hillsong Church? 35->2

'Advancing like a long-tailed rodent,
Constancy: danger.?
I go to this church once a week. I arrive, sit down and sing along. When the services are finished, I leave. I don’t see how I can do less. Yet I receive 35.4.6.->2
WHAT GIVES!?! I don’t understand this advice from the Oracle. Can anyone explain what the advice might concretely be in my case?

Hexagram 35: Advancing
What gifts and opportunities have you been given? How can you make the most of them?

Oracle
'Advancing, Prince Kang used a gift of horses to breed a multitude.
In the course of a day, he mated them three times.'

Prince Kang was the brother of Wu, the Martial King who became first ruler of the Zhou dynasty. He supported him faithfully, and Wu rewarded him with a gift of horses.

So when you are like Kang, you have remarkable gifts of strength and inspiration: gifts as beautiful as horses, that enable you to travel further and faster. You are popular; you are blessed. Kang did not just sit back and admire his horses; he worked intensively to multiply them and magnify the gift. To be truly blessed, you need to act accordingly; to advance and prosper, you need to seize all you are given as an opportunity.

Image
'Light comes forth over the earth: Advancing.
A noble one's own light shines in her character.'

Sequence
Advancing follows from Hexagram 34, Great Vigour:
'Things cannot be completed with vigour, and so Advancing follows. Advancing means making progress.'

Pair
Advancing forms a pair with Hexagram 36, Brightness Hidden:
'Advancing means daylight, Brightness Hidden means castigation.'

Changing Lines
Line 4
'Advancing like a long-tailed rodent,
Constancy: danger.'

Line 6
'Advancing with your horns.
Holding fast, use this to subjugate the city.
Danger, good fortune, not a mistake.
Constancy: shame.'

Thanks so much to Lavalamp and Liselle for the insight. I hope Lavalamp might be persuaded to cast further light on this situation, if it isn’t any bother.

I just read the lines when there are 3 or less. The change hex is more "relating" rather than "future" hex I think, as many others here do.
You scale the answer to your context. If you are asking about an hour and a half a week, it probably isn't apocalyptic.
35.2 Don't spread yourself too thin. (Long tailed rodent is also called "5 skills rat - which means basically a jack of all trades but master of none.)
35.6 Use initiative to get involved, be a little aggressive to get involved, but don't make that your normal or people won't look at it positively, maybe won't think you aren't a team player.
