I would appreciate any insights regarding line 6
Hi.Line 30.6 describes a war, as ordered by the king (someone with authority).
The chief(s) or leader(s) of the enemy are killed, while their ugly/nasty followers are captured.
Resulting 55 shows that the war is successful and a time of plenty follows.
few connections for the Traveller - I don't know where you get that text from.
Hi.What is it you asked or inquired about? That too is an essential part of your reading, as much as the response is. (And I'm curious whose translation you are referring to?)
The original question was: "Looking for help understanding my next step"
30.6 to 55.
... apart from the two lines that were not so obvious ....
So it seems the reading is pointing to Hex 56 Travelling and the "few connections for the Traveller" which is not clear for me yetSorry, but I'm still confused. Above is the question you asked and you say the response is:
... and you ask for our help in understanding this reading. That's fine (and i understand this) but then you say:
... which sounds like your question's response had multiple moving lines? And the answer wasn't 30.6 > 55?
So it seems the reading is pointing to Hex 56 Travelling and the "few connections for the Traveller" which is not clear for me yet
I just upload the PDF and then everyone can see what I'm on about.
It's the 10th wing, a mnemonic device for pairs. In Wilhelm under 'miscellaneous notes' in his translation, second part of his book."Abundance has many causes; few connections for the Traveller."
Yes! Many thanks. That was worth sorting out as it exactly describes my current fork in the road ahead."... even with whatever greatness you achieve, there may come a time when this too will decline and you will need to being to wander again - to figure out the next, next step on your journey." Or maybe it's a reminder that we're all temporary 'wanderers' and travelers here on Planet Earth - which is a good thing for all spiritual travelers to remember I think.
So its like describing the natural cycle of rise and fall in the world of things? It's the 10th wing, a mnemonic device for pairs. In Wilhelm under 'miscellaneous notes' in his translation, second part of his book.
The pair are two sides of the same coin, you'll never read one of a pair without the presence of the other and this little verse is a way to connect them.
The above is familiar, it is the 10th wing but where that particular sentence comes from not sure, it's very familiar. Oh yes it's Hilary on the sequence/pairs.
I get it. I took the whole reading to be significant and since that part didn't really make much sense and almost all of the rest did make sense it kind of jarred me.I'm a tad muddled with my 9th and 10th wing....but um it's just a little memory device according to Wilhelm and has meaning of course.
But I don't know why you are focusing on that bit really. Your answer is 30.6>55 So your main focus is 30 line 6 not the little bit about how the sequence in the pairs develops. I mean if it jumps out at you maybe it is relevant but 30.6 is your answer.
55, Abundance is the relating hexagram here there's no reason for you to be looking at 56 really.
It just occurred to me that it could also simply be the issue of "better is the enemy of good enough"How did you phrase your question exactly?
Betrayal is a nasty thing for sure. Line 30.6 is most probably about your successful court case. The character for 55 literally means 'abundant, plentiful'. This could refer to the monetary gains that winning the court case brought you, and/or it could be metaphorical as to you'll have plenty of new opportunities in the future. It also sounds so apt that the Image of 55 says 'the superior man decides lawsuits and carries out punishments'.
(edit/PS - the 'be not sad' part might mean, you got justice, you were compensated, so don't focus on the sadness)
I did do paragraphs but I will repost and put in an extra oneI tried to read it but it's too much and it's too hard............sorry
So your next step is a war, as line 30.6 says. During this war the chief is killed, while the nasty followers of that chief are captured. Your next step needs to be aggressive, and according to official rules. The question was "Looking for help understanding my next step".
Yes! Good point but who is the chief and who are the nasty followers and what do I do with them?So your next step is a war, as line 30.6 says. During this war the chief is killed, while the nasty followers of that chief are captured. Your next step needs to be aggressive, and according to official rules.
It's just telling you to focus on central issues and not waste time on peripheral issues which can be dealt with later. The captives aren't an issue, they're no big problem, not so ugly, it's the chief you're after no the captives. You stand to waste your time dealing with peripheral issues rather than focus on the main issue. Possibly it's a question of mental organisation that's neededOne way that I look at the statement in 30.6 "He executes the chief, the captives are not so ugly" is that if I get too fixated on finding the "ideal" thing I overlook the fact that other things that appear subordinate (the captives) are not so bad (so ugly) either and are not a mistake. On the other hand, things do tend to organize around a central star or light (further up there is the reference to doubled light gives rise to clarity) so maybe it is referring to executing the chief counterarguments to an idea or star that is gently forming and coming forth from the background.
That's your 55 right there, all those possibilities, quite overwhelming and what you don't need is more input, more choices....you just need to focus on the obvious perhaps. But now since this summer I have the sense that it is time for a complete renewal and restart in maybe a different direction and a whole different focus. Then along comes the reading and the question of what out of all the possibilities that are there in every moment is something that I am willing to really identify with and seriously proceed with for the next step in the journey. So the problem is the question of choice and the choice picking up enough energy and momentum so that it is viable and can sustain itself.
The 'king' signifies authority, government, officials. Any chance that you can find new employment/business in such a domain? The line also mentions travelling. The image of the beheaded chief might mean that you take the position of a corrupt high-status individual, or, that you work to enforce justice upon others, or or or (could be so many different things, just jotting ideas here). The followers of that 'chief', what do you do with them - you make sure they're under your control.but who is the chief and who are the nasty followers and what do I do with them?

It's funny that in this reading you're looking at all the peripherals rather than the reading also. I'm not knocking it, you've clearly thought a lot about it and you're trying to get a good feel of it but you may be missing the point? The 55 would be where you are, where you're coming from and here there's overwhelm which is a very 55 feeling and the way to deal with overwhelm says 30.6 is to decide what it crucial and what isn't. 30.6 is almost a 'to do' list kind of line. You wake up in the morning and there's a thousand things to do (55) that all seem of equal importance then you think about it and they're not actually, there's one or two things that can wait till another day.
That's your 55 right there, all those possibilities, quite overwhelming and what you don't need is more input, more choices....you just need to focus on the obvious perhaps.
55 is where you're coming from, the whole ambience of the question. In 55 one can feel it's a matter of doing more research into 'what next' but it isn't - there's enough to be going on with already. You aren't looking for the new but to cope with or act on what's there. The problem isn't actually a question of choice, it's not a time of fragile new beginnings but going forward with what there already is.
So what's there? If this is about possibilities take the main one, don't spend time looking round the edges, do the main thing to be done.
Now that throws a different light on the whole thing. My simplistic understanding was that you have whatever situation you have and that 30.6 picks up on that particular way that things are currently panning out and offers the medicine to proceed further, and after taking the medicine for a while or using the prescription it will lead to a new set of circumstances, i.e. 55 that are just around the corner but still below the horizon waiting to become the new now.The 55 would be where you are, where you're coming from and here there's overwhelm which is a very 55 feeling and the way to deal with overwhelm says 30.6 is to decide what it crucial and what isn't.
Thanks diamant, that does reflect a lot how I'm feeling about what is called for and what the reading is conveyingThe 'king' signifies authority, government, officials. Any chance that you can find new employment/business in such a domain? The line also mentions travelling. The image of the beheaded chief might mean that you take the position of a corrupt high-status individual, or, that you work to enforce justice upon others, or or or (could be so many different things, just jotting ideas here). The followers of that 'chief', what do you do with them - you make sure they're under your control.
The fact that line 30.6 changes here shows that you're now far away from the sort of idyllic situation of hexagram 30 (looking after one's cow). So I think that this cast is urging you to find something new and different.
As an afterthought, if you do stay in your current line of work/business, be ruthless. Anyone who tries to betray you or to be underhanded against you, be tough on them.
In general, and in a nutshell, be aggressive and follow official rules.
