I have been looking for some important documents. I know I have them, however I have searched the places where I keep all documents together and can't find it there.
I asked Yi 'Where should I look for the documents?' and got 10.1,6 changing to 47.
I think 47 is my state of mind right now.
Do the lines suggest a place to any of you?

Overall I do get a feeling that I'll find them however I don't understand how and where?

Lots going on in life hence so many question!

Thanks Kttuan! Yeah I'm sure its with me.. Will check odd places.
Some places in the home give me a feeling of 'tiger' that if I search there it would be a great mess. Will check those places.
I can't think of any place in house related to water though where documents may be kept.
Will check some more...

I wish i could help you , i dont know how people find lost things using the iching, there are a few here that do maybe someone may reply, i can tell by 47 they must very important, one thing i do know 10.6 can be about re-tracing your steps but thats pretty obvious, maybe ask to see a picture of where your documents are now.

It's obvious however I didn't 'retrace my steps' as I have just kept them and forgotten all about it. Also I didn't see the line in that sense.
I will ask to see a picture, that seems like a good idea and matches the language of Yi.
Thank you Steve.

Maybe retrace your steps if you can remember what you did the day you had them.

10 is about treading closely behind the tiger - the "tiger" here could be your lost documents - I wonder if it means they're very close to a place you've already looked?

Quoting from Hilary's book:

10.1
'Plain treading going on.
No mistake.'

10.6
'Observing the footsteps, blessings from the ancestors.
They come full circle: good fortune from the source.

The first line position can be about inklings and beginnings - maybe telling you go back to where you thought they were in the first place, or where you kind of "think" they should be? "Plain treading" means doing ordinary, simple things.

Line 6 can mean conclusions - again, "go back to the places you've already looked." (So already maybe there's two hints about that? Line 1 being in the position of beginnings, and line 6's text?)

Trojina (a long-time and very active member here who you may have met through posts) says - if I'm getting this right - that when lines 1 and 6 are the ones changing, the situation will resolve quickly. You move from the start to the finish without much in between. So - if we're lucky! - maybe this won't take long.

The relating hexagram 47 might mean your state of mind, since you feel oppressed and confined. If it's part of how to find the papers, it might mean a place that's confined. Is there somewhere you've already looked where you could dig a little deeper, or underneath things, or inside something? 47 depicts a tree inside walls.

The "steps of change" are sometimes helpful. A step of change for a line is the hexagram you get if you only change that line. They're like mini relating hexagrams.

The step of change for 10.1 is 6, Arguing or Conflict - if you cast a reading where only the first line of hexagram 10 was changing, the relating hexagram would be 6.

Hexagram 6's Oracle reads:

'Arguing.
There is truth and confidence, blocked.
Vigilant and centred, good fortune.
Ending, pitfall.
Fruitful to see great people,
Fruitless to cross the great river.

Two things that stick out to me - "Ending, pitfall" and "Fruitless to cross the great river." In an actual argument, "ending, pitfall" often means that arguments are easier to start than to finish. Maybe here it means that in one of the places you've already looked, you started well but didn't finish - maybe you have to be more thorough somewhere.

[Edited - also, "there is truth and confidence, blocked" - that might mean don't let your confidence about where the papers ought to be, be blocked. Trust yourself. (And that could be the "great people" you're advised to see - your inner great person.)

"Fruitless to cross the great river" - in her Language of Change glossary (very helpful - I highly recommend it), one phrase Hilary associates with this is "enter uncharted territory." So, again, maybe there's no need to look anywhere new.

The step of change for line 6 is 58, Opening:

'Opening, creating success.
Constancy bears fruit.

Constancy - keep looking in the previous spots. Also maybe it's literal - maybe there's an actual opening somewhere? That could fit with the confinement. (General themes running through all these pieces of readings can be important.)

Of course there are always several (at least) angles to look at readings from - I'm seeing it from the angle basically of "go back to where you've already looked, and look more thoroughly."

Remembered you said this:

Some places in the home give me a feeling of 'tiger' that if I search there it would be a great mess. Will check those places.
I wonder if that could be what hexagram 6 refers to? Hilary says hexagram 6 can mean "arguing" with the state of how things are, with circumstances or reality (again if I'm saying that right).

Some place you really don't want to look because it's a mess might be exactly where you have to look. Then maybe "truth and confidence, blocked" in hexagram 6 means not quite "the place you think they ought to be," but more that you're blocking the inner "truth and confidence" you need to look someplace you'd rather not. (Maybe. As I said there are numerous angles.)

Oh - if and when you find them, please (please - am begging!) come back and tell us about it. Even if how or where you find them has nothing to do with anything anyone said.

The only way we can learn anything from a reading - whether we get it right or wrong - is if people update and tell us how things turned out. We really appreciate it.

Thank you so so so much Lisa!
I have checked some of the Tiger like areas with no luck so far.
There are some more, I'm checking.
Will also go back and check where I did earlier. And where I think they may be.
Somehow I do have a feeling I will find them soon.

Thanks for introducing 'Steps of change'
There is so much to learn...

Will definitely update here.
Thanks again <3

Thank you Lisa, Trojina, Hilary, Steve, Kttuan, I found the documents :) Just now and I thought you guys should hear it first :D

Found them in a cupboard I had taken as granted as cleaned up and organised
and that there was no chance it would be there. Many lines make sense here...

Just jotting down whatever makes sense.

The step of change for 10.1 is 6 as suggested by Lisa.

'Arguing.
There is truth and confidence, blocked.
Vigilant and centred, good fortune.
Ending, pitfall.
Fruitful to see great people,
Fruitless to cross the great river.

- This was basically an experience letter from a company I left 7 years ago, and am gonna need it on my first job after this long break. I had contacted the company to give another letter however it being a huge company, and this being an old case, I didn't get a reply. I was considering to visit there today, which would mean I can't search at home however no guarantee getting it there.
So I didn't 'cross the river' instead meditated and [saw] believed the 'great people within', and meditated.

I wouldn't have reached that cupboard, had I not 'retraced my footprints' and seen in a place where I saw before, and another places that seemed like tiger. Though I didn't find it there, these actions basically started a flow of action, one after another. Some old papers I came across also gave a clue as in - papers in this place are too old, may be I need a place that I accessed more recently.

Then I checked 'Uncharted territory' in the flow, and found it there within 30 seconds.

Also
10.6
'Observing the footsteps, blessings from the ancestors.
They come full circle: good fortune from the source.

Full circle: The papers were found in the same room where they entered when I recieved them. though all the other papers were moved elsewhere.
Ancestors blessing: My mom had helped me clean this particular cupboard when she visited me once.

Thank you everyone :)
Much Love <3

I'm so glad you found the paper! And thank you for letting us know!

This goes to show that readings mean more to the person casting them than to others. Steve was correct about re-tracing your steps, but you were also able to make a connection between the "ancestors" and your mother, and "fruitless to cross the great river" meant don't go out to visit the company.

Good luck with your new job :) (not sure if you have one already, or if you're looking?)

I have had that line so many times, i actually had that line in a hotel in bangkok when i burnt a hole in a leather desk and i wasnt even suppose to be smoking in there ( i didnt know that), There were actually holes in the carpet as well.
I was really concerned they might charge me for the whole desk or something or worse fine me , call the police who knows , i thought the yi was having a bit of joke , was basicaly saying look at your actions then i was really worried, the line also can mean your conduct will get you to this point, for good or bad. They never noticed anything thank god.

Yes it was good team work, and a great result, you can thank me messing up for up my input, I get that line usually if i havent acted the way i should. However in this case it was good when losing something.
It would be nice to receive it one day and think I acted correctly then it would be a super positive line.
This was also the first time i have helped anybody find anything with the Yi.
When i also said obviously you should retrace your steps thats just what i do when i lose something.

So yes great result.

Do you mean 10.6?

Am trying to see how it fit. Is it because there were other burnt holes in things? And if those were still there then they wouldn't care about yours, either?

I'm glad nothing happened, but I'd still worry whether they did charge everyone for the burn holes and then just not use the money to repair or replace the things. How did you see it? (Well, you sort of said, but I'm slow, lol.)

Oh was the fact i was drinking and smoking and carry on when i shouldnt have been, so when i asked the Yi what did I need to know about the situation, the next morning the advice was basically you were not acting responsibly and this is the result, so here you are.
The advice was kind of blunt but true.
There were no burn holes anywhere expect for the ones i put there, I really thought this was all maybe going to go south. Imagine if they said they needed to re-carpet the room its going to cost x amount.

I was kind of hoping the Yi would say it will all be alright and tell they wont notice.
I just got 10.6 , was like you are your own kid

Look back at your steps to see where you are now.

Wow! I never knew so meany meanings hid in a line.
So far 10 has been a friendly tiger to me who doesn't bite. I'm beginning to see its different shades now. Thanks to you all.

About your hotel experience, I cannot connect the line to the incident, however you did instantly coz it was meant for you. I think everyone carries their own symbolism and Yi speaks in that language to each individual.

The hexagram is in general usually about conduct, like for example you asked the Yi " how will i go in my exam" and you received 10.6 and you didnt study then yi would say how look back then you will see your answer or if you did study then you would most likely receive a good result.
