Hello friends,

I have an opportunity to move to Hawaii, and am trying to make the right decision. I am fresh out of a 3 year relationship with someone whom I love very much. Despite this, we were not well together and definitely held each other back more than we supported each other Despite that, it has still been very difficult and painful, and very much unresolved. The idea was for space to bring us closer, but she has pretty much thrown in the towel and wants to explore other guys.

Now, I have my best friend soul-brother in Hawaii trying to get me to come out there and live the good life. Grow our own food, get in tune with the rhythms of nature, make music, heal, dance in a community of conscious people. This guy knows me very well and is telling me its where I need to be. He's facilitating me taking the leap and coming out there.

Through this breakup I have lost so much, including places to live, and now am floating with really no place other than a terrible job that treats me very poorly and stresses me out. There is this weird unresolved feeling here with my ex- but I don't want to be here in a place I didn't want to be in the first place, while she goes cold and dates other guys.

On the other hand I don't want to make any huge life decision out of emotional instability or weakness. So I asked the I Ching:

'How will me and my life change if I go to Hawaii?'

10.5.6 -> 54 was my answer.

I'm having a hard time discerning this.. Is it a bad Omen, am I not to go? Or am i to be taking sure to be mindful, aware of dangers and pitfalls, and with this awareness I will be successful with no error?

I felt pretty confident that this Hawaii thing was where I was supposed to be heading, to my soul brother, to the land, to heal and grow food and write music. It's almost a dream come true, and while every door is closing shut, and every rug around me is pulling out from under my feet, this option persists.

I will add that this whole process of losing 'everything' has precipitated a powerful spiritual transformation, no doubt in sync with the recent hunter moon. Until I saw this reading, I was more concerned with when to go, not if I should.

Wiser diviners input welcome,

Thanks!!

I think the 54 indicates where you are now, in a subordinate and unsatisfactory situation. 10.5 means that with decisive treading you will 'manage your position correctly,' according to Thomas Cleary. Blofeld writes that you should tread 'delicately' in order to avoid trouble.

10.6: I have sometimes interpreted it to mean reviewing my recent I Ching readings; to go over them carefully, as there may be something I have missed. It's a line about being observant and careful.

I think this is a good reading and it supports your going to Hawaii.

Don't underestimate your own power to get through difficulties and start a new life.

The yang change pattern here is 20, the Observer, and the yin change pattern is 34, Great Power. We enter into the question at 20, taking stock and observing the big picture, but the solution is found in 34, where we manage our great power correctly. :)

Don't be too put off by 10.5. There will be trouble wherever you go, that's the nature of life, and the key to minimizing it is to tread carefully but at the same time decisively. :)

I don't want to bring bad news but you are either not going or if you go you'll be at a disadvantage. You will not be able to do what you want. You are not in control of the situation, others are. This is what 54 shows.

In the view of many here at Online Clarity, the second hexagram is called the "relating hexagram," and it shows one's relationship to the question asked, not the result. And so I think dead4life's current situation is one of subordination. The relating hexagram does not always point toward the future. I just wanted to be clear about that. It usually points to the context and it can also point to our wishes and hopes.

I agree with ginnie.

Hex 54 in this particular reading - as a relating hexagram- should not be interpreted as the future. So, I cannot see why 54 should be seen as the outcome whereas the primary hexagram 10 and its changing lines are completely ignored to come the conclusion that this reading is "bad news".
