Hi Friends,

I was hoping someone could help me with a reading I am having troubling figuring out. The question was regarding a relationship that ended about 10 months ago. I have not had much contact with X but we were together 4 years so it is still on my mind from time to time and I would be willing to work on it if the opportunity presented itself. My question was:

Tell me something about X and I in the near future?

Firstly, I am not sure the iChing should be used for future readings as I have read many places that this is an erroneous way to go about consulting the Oracle. If this is correct, should the question be deemed irrelevant or should I apply it to the present circumstance?

Secondly, I have been consulting the Oracle for a few months now but have never received 4 moving lines. Which moving line should be taken as advice?

Lastly, 12 Standstill turning into 41 Decreasing is also confusing because I cannot decipher if this means the Standstill will Decrease or if the chances of us reuniting in any form will Decrease.

A little context: it was mostly me, due to immaturity at a young age and lack of understanding, who drove this person to decide that we should not be together. Of course, it takes two, but I will not negate that I played a larger part in creating a negative outcome. These past few months have been a bit difficult but also full of growth and learning and so I do appreciate that I was able to make the best of it and change my attitude for the better, regardless of a reconciliation with X. Last time I checked, he was very hurt and told me we both had to move on. But, since everything is in a constant state of flux, I thought it appropriate to ask the iChing for some insight.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

In my concrete experience, yes it can. Not always, as sometimes, at the precise moment of asking, the result is not 'decided' yet. But if it is then yes, the answer will tell you.

Which moving line should be taken as advice?
12 Standstill turning into 41 Decreasing

In my opinion 4 moving lines show a transition from hexagram 12, to hexagram 41, which is quite intense and fast. 12 shows separation and lack of communication, and 41 speaks of poverty, of someone who already is in need and yet still gives. Perhaps your anxiety will get the better of you and you will contact him first. The outcome will be sincere, but with 41 I wouldn't count on a happy reunion in the near future (since you asked about the near future).

12 it is a time of standstill where only withdrawing into seclusion is beneficial
12.1 spare yourself from the humiliation from trying to make things work with him again
12.2 you are ready to do whatever to make it work with him again, if only he would end your confusion, but he will not do so, no matter what (and he has also clearly said that)
12.4 but change is coming for you personally, but that would require that you make the conscious decision to forgive and forget and try to move on
12.5 you are being cautioned to not feel too secure in this time of transition (by secure it is refering to your need to go back and try again). get rid of the old so that new things can come into your life instead.
42 focus on how you can improve your life and focus less on the mistakes you made. forgive yourself.

In general, this reading is not telling you anything about the relationship as such. if you want to get a better idea of what the heck went down, try the questions suggested by Jesed quite some time ago (and which certainly have offerd me peace of mind):
1. general analysis of the relationship between me and X
2. his position in relation to me
3. my position in relation to him
4. my best course of action going forward

Light and love,
K

Dear futuristic flow,

You can ask the Y any question you want; there is no time frame and no restriction on subjects.

Secondly, I have been consulting the Oracle for a few months now but have never received 4 moving lines. Which moving line should be taken as advice?

There are methods of dealing with multiple lines and as you learn more about the Y you might decide to use one of them. Personally, I take all the lines on board and, if I may, I would suggest you to do the same for the time being, as you will be getting a much deeper understanding.

Lastly, 12 Standstill turning into 41 Decreasing is also confusing because I cannot decipher if this means the Standstill will Decrease or if the chances of us reuniting in any form will Decrease.

The relating hexagram is not a result of the primary hexagram, so it doesn't mean that Hex 12 is leading to or turning into Hex 41.

I am not absolutely sure that this is the end for the relationship, I would need a follow-up question to say so for sure.

Thank you everyone for your time. I appreciate your insights.

Mirian - can you please suggest a follow up question that I can ask to get a more specific answer?

Diamanda - one thing I'd like to comment on, you mentioned "41 speaks of poverty, of someone who already is in need and yet still gives." I'm not sure that when giving with love and sincerity that one should expect to receive something in return. All spiritual literature I have read points to giving for the pure joy of doing so. I know what you mean in the context of relationships and practical life, but I just thought I'd throw it out there. In many ways it is nice to love someone or something even though you may never get anything back formwise.

Thank you again :)

Dear futuristic flow,

I can only suggest questions that I would ask, if I were in your position. You could ask for advice on what to do OR you could ask what you will achieve if you pursue this relationship with X, for example.

But, the main thing is, it is you talking to the Y, so you should ask what you feel like and the way you feel like asking. It is you connecting to the Y ;)

Hi Mirian,

I asked the following questions:

General analysis of this relationship
Hexagram 5 - Waiting
LInes 2 and 4 moving
Is this referring to the current situation or the relationship in general?

His position in relation to me?
Hexagram 43 Breakthrough
Lines 2,3 moving

My position is relation to him?
Hexagram 29 - The Abysmal
Lines 1,2,6 moving

My best course of action
Hexagram 32 - Duration
Line 2 moving

Is this the end?
Hexagram 59 - Dispersion
Lome 1,4,5 moving

Would you be able to comment further?

Thank you so much!

futuristic_flow I'm afraid you have misunderstood me. I commented on hexagram 41. I did not write any opinion whatsoever about giving/loving being good or bad.

Line 2 from Hexagram 32 as a result of "Best course of action" seems to be saying that I am currently doing the right thing and to continue on in that way. But what am I doing? LOL. And since the my position in relation to him is so "Abysmal" would it be advised to continue doing this?

1. General analysis 5.2.4>49
In a time of waiting(5), disagreements crop up and you're laying blame on each other. Only if you choose to stay calm in this and not react to it back will things be okay. (5.2) Then the situation gets really bad and there is no way back or forward, so you have to get out of the pit in order to not aggravate any further damage. (5.4) Then 49 speaks of change and adjusting to different times (which you are doing). Timeframe-wise, this is referring to a period in May-June-July-August. My guess is that this is when you two broke up?

2. His position 43.2.3>17
43 by being resolute and examining himself, he is stalling a violent collapse of things
43.2 he is being very cautios and watchful, avoiding the trouble and focusing on himself
43.3 he finds himself in a really sticky situation - he is keeping you at bay, but not letting you out of sight either, because then things would get even worse, and no one will understand why he is doing it, but he is enduring this.
17 adapting himself to the demands of the time

3. Your position 29.1.2.6>42
29 being sincere in your actions and carrying on the task of teaching yourself to become stronger in your character
29.1 you have become so used to him that you do not know how to be without him, you will lose your way if you continue holding on
29.2 you can't achieve anything great right now, and you are being asked to be content with small achievements in your path
29.6 here you are being portrayed as someone who has lost their right way and has literally pushed themselves into a corner.
42 let go of the bad and focus on cultivating the good in you

4. What to do 32.2>62
Do not change your direction (meaning, do not go back). Avoid excess and control your inner strength (32.2). Do not strive to do more than you can achieve, don't fly too close to the sun and stay low (62).

5. Is it over 59.1.4.5> ?
59.1 forgive yourself for what you think you did wrong
59.4 let go of the familiar, so you can make room for something much better, but in order to be able to do so, you need to understand and accept the bigger picture
59.5 pick a goal that will help you with your recovery in these trying times.
I can't find what the hex changes into, so I can't comment more, but I'm afraid that for the time being, there is nothin to hope for and you should be taking care of yourself and becoming strong again. I've always heard that it takes half the time that you were together to get over someone... so 4 years would make it two years... that sounds depressing, but times do get easier and wounds heal and the pain becomes less strong after a while. while you do feel like ****, accept that you feel that way, but don't go haunting the past.

I agree with kkappa on most points.

General analysis or relationship 5.2.4>49
You are still waiting for him, it's annoying to begin with, it's terribly painful eventually. It wears you out. Then everything changes.

His position 43.2.3>17
He is wavering in his decision, and feels uneasy and fearful. You two might meet intimately again, even though his friends disapprove of you.

Your position 29.1.2.6>42
You have fallen into a trap, you can't accomplish much, and you feel stuck. You might go to meet him, but it will not have the result any of you wants. There seems to be a final chapter of separation. After which you will concentrate on more positive things in your life.

Best course of action 32.2>62
Change direction, and don't regret it. Lay low till the storm passes.

Is this the end? 59.1.4.5>38
You are planning to contact him and help him, or he will contact you. However there will be a very painful separation after this. I get the overall feeling that there's going to be further communication/meeting between you, but it will be very stressful, very painful, and it will end badly. So in a sense, it's not 100% over, and yet is seems to be. I think perhaps that's why the best course of action advised is to do nothing, and just lay low till you get over it, to avoid more pain.

I'm wishing you to find a new fulfilling partnership soon!
