Hello everybody, this is my first post. I've been lurking here for a while now, making use of much of the hard work and insight that so many of you have put into this community. I'm glad to have found this place.

The three editions of the I Ching are the Wilhelm, Eranos, and Karcher's 'How to use the I Ching.' I generally refer first to Karcher, then to Wilhelm. For this reading I have leaned mostly on Karcher.

This morning I asked for an image for the day. For an answer I got 13, with changing line at 3, which becomes hex 25.
The commentary on the line from both Karcher and Wilhelm mentions a strong opponent. The text itself mentions hiding weapons in a thicket, ascending a mound and a period of three years before I will rise up.
I'm not sure what to make of 25. Yet.
Later in the day I asked if the opponent was within myself, or without. The answer I got was, 64, with change at 4, which becomes 4.
The changing line for 64 mentions celebration after a period of three years. Also a long struggle to overcome or control a demon, or his domain.
As for hex 4, this seems to be telling me to lay off asking the same questions over and over. Admittedly, I have been doing that, primarily in relation to a situation in my personal life that has had a significant impact on myself and others over the last 7-8 months.
This really intigues me. I had asked a question about the day, a pretty short period in time, but get answers that seem to be describing something big, something that unfolds over a relatively long period.
I don't really get what I am being told here. I have a few ideas, but for as direct as this answer seems to be, I can't seem to grasp what exactly is going on.
Any insight is appreciated.

The Yi speaks a language of symbols, which can apply to either the macrocosmic or microcosmic. This language is archetypal, which is why it seems so big. But it can apply to something as small and modest as a day, or a part thereof. The 'unfolding over a relatively long period' thing is relative - relative to the course of day's events, for instance. It's a symbol, remember, and not literal.

Try focusing on getting an image with which to filter reality for the day - IOW be proactive rather than reactive - that way you seek out experiences to have through the filter, see:

Work with hexagrams to get their overall 'feel' and then move on to hexagrams-with-changing-lines.
