Hello,

I've been participating in a spiritually-oriented, personal growth group for a couple of years. Lately, I've been feeling a lot of mental resistance to continuing. I don't question the group's integrity and I haven't had any bad experiences, but I do question the time and cost in terms of value to me. Making changes can be difficult for me and I tend to second (and third) guess my own impressions, so I am trying to assess if my resistance is an inner guidance or just reactive.

I asked for a comment on the advisability of my continuing to participate with the group and got 13.3.5.6 (Fellowship with Others) > 51 (Shock.)

Thank you in advance for any insights you may see in this cast.

Have you been so tight with this group that it's limited you from participating in other activities?
13.6 makes me think you've out grown this group, or don't need to be so closely involved.

Not overly tight, but it does requirement quite a commitment for several weekends a year and additional meetings in between. How would you see the significance of 51?

13.3 Your considering that maybe you don't want to continue in the group.
13.5 Yet you feel that maybe the negative experiences are all just part of life, we bump up against each other but that is how we polish rocks into jewels.
13.6 You disconnect but with no hard feelings, you realize your path is leading you elsewhere, maybe to a wider, less restrictive or more inclusive experience.
51. On your own you have many unanticipated experiences and insights but you can handle them. Or perhaps this is saying the group would be surprised - shocked, hurt? - and that you would need to be prepared to handle that. (Or maybe nobody cares and that could be disturbing too?)

51 as the relating hexagram sounds like whatever happens it wont be what you had expected. So maybe again an emphasis on the importance of leaving in a very quiet, friendly, don't rock the boat sort of way so if you find you want to rejoin it wont be a big deal. Perhaps be particularly conscientious about completing all you agreed to do and leave notes for the next fellow?

I am responding to this as I got the exact same reading for an identical dilemma.... a closed group - should I stay in it, even though I felt uncomfortable - other casting had said too that I would be fine on my own....39 came up a lot too.

I did stay with the group - but changed my mindset towards it. The negativity I felt (and anxieties) was more to do with my own experiences and how to deal with them, not the group itself. I did look at other groups, but after a shift in my own thinking, am glad that I remained - albeit from a different perspective.

Hope this helps

Thank you. That is the question I'm trying to answer - is it just not a good fit or something in my perspective that keeps me from seeing the value?

So, I'm still wrestling with staying in the group. There's nothing wrong with the group, I just don't know that the time and cost are worth it to me - and I'm aware of feeling anxious about leaving, letting others down, making a mistake.

I asked for a comment on leaving the group and got 41.2.6 > 24.

This seems like it could indicate this would be a positive move - but other interpretations speak of being of service and that confuses me. I'd welcome any insight you may have.

Thank you!

Not read earlier posts but just looking at this I think you need to be aware this group isn't a destination, it's a place that takes you other places (41.6). Like college for example....we don't go to college to make a home there forever, but we do gain many experiences, many friends, many servants. Line 6 describes this...how you don't make a home, but you gain experiences and connections that you take with you to your next destination. Well taking into account line 2 as well I feel it is important you realise you don't owe this group a huge amount in terms of time or commitment or even loyalty. In 41 it says only 2 small bowls are needed for the sacrifice...you don't need to offer all you have.

If I had this about leaving a group I think it would make me lighten up about it. You aren't bound to this group, you don't owe them. I say that because I think with line 2 one can take too much on oneself. If you wish to leave it is fine to leave. What you gain from this group you can take with you in your backpack on your journey of life :)

Additional note...just saw this

You speak of the time and the cost and you get 41 which is decrease....No really you do not need to sacrifice all this and the reading says you really must not worry about letting others down. Line 2 always seems to show up when we have burdened ourselves too much with responsibilities that aren't really ours.

Focus on yourself ? Is your backpack full now and are you ready to travel on ? If so be happy about it. Maybe you have had all you need from this group now, you can take all you have learned and move on.

I also feel the 24 is a bit of a nice rest calling to you.

Follow up: I did choose to step away from the group - though I did so with advanced notice and messages to the group leaders and other members. Consistent with the relating hexagram in my first cast, 51, there was a fair bit of 'shock' at my decision. Overall, both of the casts seemed accurate and I appreciated the input I received and my choice feels appropriate for me at this time.
