22.2

I said I was taking a break, but things are very tumultuous within my family, and I am concerned about my father. I figured I would be ok to ask one question not related to myself or to the questions I have a habit of repeating.

Since my grandfather passed my father and his 2 siblings are fighting over the estate. The only stipulation in the will is that everything be divided equally between the 3 of them. My aunt keeps saying that certain things are supposed to come to her and should not be included in the overall value. They are having huge fights, and my aunt has decided she wants nothing more to do with my dad. I won't go into it, but the womans is deeply disturbed and has been for a long time. She has always had a deep rooted jealously of my dad and everything he has accomplished. The whole thing is causing problems with the whole family. Should be a wonderful Christmas (sigh). So I asked what should my father do regarding this situation and got 22.2. I have never found a translation of this hex that really resonates with me, and the archives here had little on this one. Any thoughts???

He should let the extra stuff go.
Keep all of his dignity instead.
He should take the higher ground here.
Just by coincidence, Xu, beard, also means an older sister.

Hi Seeker,

I'm sorry things are going on that way in your family right now. To me 22 means seeing things in a way the things are not... 22 sais something about the more importance for the words, rather then the package... By decorating the beard the Yi could say that things are about 'small stuff'... (It's just a beard...), and it could be an advantage for your father to wait a while, because things could blown over...
It's interesting to read that, acording to Brad 'beard' XU, could also be an older sister, as I had never see this chinees character being translated like that... In "Dictionary of Early Zhou Chinese" by the german proffessor Axel Schuessler, XU, and then the XU with that particular character is besides "beard" translated as "waiting", like "wait till the hair is on the chin"... wait till the beard grows... In a flattering way the Yi could advise people here to stay who you are, but to grow up :-D!
If you change this line in it's opposite you get hexagram 25, The Innocence / The Unexpected...
Brad has right in saying that you father should stand above things, and let the aunt grow up in a matter of time...

I hope this is helpfull

Hug,
Frank
