I know you're not supposed to ask yes/no questions but I can't help obsessively checking the Yi on a near daily basis about my job prospects. I've had a lot of very positive lines and indicators lately and it's only today that I've had one with a confusing message.

I know Hex 23 is supposed to be the symbol of ultimate bad luck and misfortune, but it seems more like the 23 is reflecting my present state of worry, anxiety and depression about the situation. I feel like I am 'breaking away' from my dreams because I am struggling to make them a reality. Indeed, I feel like that sense is covered by line 2 and 3. I feel hopeless and miserable and a million miles away from achieving my goals, and I think the Yi is reflecting that.

Line 5 suggests to me a possible turnaround in the future: "A shoal of fishes. Favor comes through the court ladies. Everything acts to further." This obviously changes to 57 which speaks of small focused improvement over time.

So I'm thinking it's saying I'll be divorced from my dreams for a while yet, and I might not immediately get the exact job and salary I want, but the potential in the future indicates that a job in this area is possible.

Am I reading this right, or am I being too optimistic?

Line 5 and hexagram 57 seem auspicious.

Six in the fifth place means: . . . Favor comes through the court ladies.

Thirty years ago an aunt was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The cost for treatment was half a million. My uncle did not have such money, applied for medical assistance, and was refused. He went back to the office to plead. The worry showed in his face and the secretary asked what was wrong. He told her of his impossible situation because without this treatment his wife would die. By chance, he and the secretary had the same family name. "Don't worry," she said. "We Albertis have to stick together. I'll see that you get it," and she did. So show the secretaries where you apply for work every consideration.

Many thanks pocossin, food for thought.

Today I asked what the wisest course of action I could take regarding my career is right now, and got 64.1.6 - 54. It seemed like the Yi was counselling me that any action right now is a bad move and I need to sit tight. I have 16 applications pending for incredible jobs that I have yet to here from yet, and it's possible that the Yi doesn't want me to take action until I hear back from these.

To make sure that I was clear on the reading, I asked the Yi what the outcome would be if I just left things for a bit and stopped frantically searching. I got 2.5 - 8, the 'receptive' promising great good fortune. If that wasn't a clear sign to hit the pause button for a while and relinquish control, I guess I don't know what is!

It sounds like you may be asking too many questions, or the same question in different ways too many times. If you had good readings showing good prospects then your prospects won't change in just one day from good to bad. The I Ching might be reflecting your obsessive state of mind and advising you to relax.
I say wait a week or so to see if you hear back from any of the companies and try not to ask any more questions. If you've heard nothing by that point, ask again about your next move. Obviously, if you hear back from one of them then you'll have new questions to ask anyway. :)
