Anon, it?s been my experience that more often than not, 23 isn't as catastrophic as it sounds. First, it almost always deals with ones own disposition: feeling a deep sense of loss, and the resulting shake up.

The relating hexagram to this is 18. This means going to work on something which has gone bad.

Line 2 is the approach of unrest and isolation over the matter. This requires adjusting quickly to the new picture which is presenting itself.

Line 3 makes a break with ties. Here is where close examination is important to determine whether this break is with the other person or with the unrest in yourself. Based on the limited information I have, it's up to you to make this determination. At any rate, you have close ties to this element, and the break from it/him/her will not be understood by those around you. But that's not your fault or concern.

The picture requires caution, within and without. It?s not a time to beat up on yourself, or on anyone. But it is a time to correct the mistakes of the past.

Hi Anonymous

I think Candid gave you a good answer. When I first looked at this I could not make heads nor tales of it in terms of how to deal with it. After thinking about it though, I may have this to offer. When the second line changes you have relating hexagram #4. In 4 there is something dark, hidden, something we are not aware of. Could there be something hidden in this situation?

When line 3 changes we have keeping still. This may be the best way to deal with it. Not that you do nothing, you do have to work on what has been spoiled, but this may require inner work, rather than outer. You might look back deeply into what created the problem in the first place. Is there somewhere you went wrong as well as David? Is there something, an attitude maybe, that you could change?

Just some thoughts,
Gene

Anon, it sounds to me that there is indeed a loss, and the very kind I?ve already pointed out to you. Namely, the loss of your peace and rest. You are also beating yourself up over this, as I?ve suggested before.

Cut your losses and move on the wiser.
