haha, i just kind of misused the oracle for a quite profane question (whether to buy a new camera i fell in love with but which i can't really afford) and i got 30.4.5>37.
looking in the forum for the possibility of a hidden "yes! go get that thing right now!" interpretation i stumbled upon your little picture here.
well, clear enough...
damn.
but thanks anyway!

Interesting, and chuckled at Shnoock's candid comments.

It'll be two years this Nov since I quit cigs. My composite being (family) appreciates the love and respect, and the good example of the father, which was followed by my youngest son quitting his cig habit, about 3 months ago. That sure makes me happy. He and his fiance now ride bikes everywhere.

hi rodaki,
well, i'm confused now... how do you see 30.5 as positive? i see myself here crying and regretting having bought the camera. okay, there's a chance of provoking someones pity then, but wouldn't it be better to avoid the regret in the first place?
or, from a different perspective, could using the camera bring me some sudden "enlightenment", some insight into not so nice parts of human condition, and this would be good for me in the end?
hm.

hi shnoock,

I think your answer says that this camera will produce a series of snapshots you will keep to remind you of moments you spent with your dear ones, look back at them and sometimes rejoice, sometimes feel nostalgic and shed tears . .
I think the reading portrays the function of the camera you want, it doesn't necessarily give you advice on how to spend your money . .
I recently fell in love with a gorgeous coat . . really beautiful, but I felt it would be a bit of an indulgence if I bought it . . Yi gave me a couple of great answers concerning its purchase (I ask too profane questions, we're not all spirit ) but in the end I decided not to go ahead with it . . which keeps me coming back to a recent thread on Yi answering on a 'need-to-know' basis . . now you know this camera would be a good buy, if your budget affords it or not is easy to find out ;)

oh, thanks for clarifying, rodaki!
as to my budget, that's actually not that simple - i certainly have the money, but my need for financial security is big... so! *irresponsibly stretching hilarys thread* i asked again: how would buying the camera affect my financial security?
39 unchanging. well, i guess i will have to wait a bit. for the great man perhaps. if he's reading here: i'm home, great man, waiting for you...

Shnoock, it's been my experience when inquiring about a major purchase, that unless there is something seriously amiss with the idea, that the Yi will speak to my mental/emotional condition, rather than to the practicality or morality of the purchase itself.

Perhaps you feel as though you are burning up (with passion) over this decision (line 4), and/or already experience projected buyer's remorse (line 5) ("i see myself here crying and regretting having bought the camera." - rather than Yi passing a moral judgment for deciding to buy it.

Remember that 30 also means a net, as in catching a timely opportunity.

thank you for that perspective, dear meng!
reading your and rodaki's lines was illuminating, but i have to admit, also a bit frustrating concerning my relationship to the yi. i've been consulting it since 19 years now - and i still have to struggle with it. even when i'm quite sure about what it wants to tell me, it turns out that i completely misunderstood it...
i'm going to buy the camera now, btw.
greetz, shnoock!

This is an old thread, but worth adding to since the same reading of 30.4.5>37 came when I asked yesterday afternoon about what effect Hurricane Sandy was going to have on New York City.

It was over quickly and then left tears behind. Tears indeed -- and also a good image for flooding. How this will eventually turn into something of benefit has yet to be seen, though.

All best,
