Hello. Help. I've decided to go ahead and get married. I did decide to consult the Yi about this, resulting in h. 30 lines 1, 2, and 6, to h. 32.

Im sorry, Im just another heartsick lover out here, wanting a chorus to help me see out of this paper bag.

Yes, he wants to too, it's just too long a story. I've been reading backlogs here, and the words of LiSe, and if she would volunteer the corresponding YiLin verse, I would kiss her feet.

Please help.

Yours,
Linda

You didn't ask me for the Yilin verse, but I couldn't resist translating it:

Eastern wind dissolves the ice,
mild air is indicating a rise,
the year's harvest is copiously high.

The interesting thing about this short poem is that every line contains the name of a hexagram:

1. 40 ('dissolving')
2. 46 ('rise')
3. 55 ('copiously')

This adds a very nice interpretative flavour to the text.

By the way, very well translated Ewald. You have captured some of the rhyme that is in the original.

Best,

Harmen.

Er yes nice - but er what does it mean ?? The airs getting warmer so theres lots of grain ? Is the poem supposed to elucidate the meaning of 31, 1, 2 and 6 ?

Thanks, Harmen.

Void - The Yilin contains 64 times 64 poems, one for every possible Yi consultation. They are ordered along the originating and resulting hexagrams. This one is for hex. 30 going to 32.

I take it that this poem describes a situation where the wind and air temperatures are very beneficial to have a very copious harvest. Applying it to Linda's situation, I gather that things will not only go better, but very well, and she will be very happy about her decision.

Originally the Yilin is combined with a calendar which links the hexagrams to the 24 jieqi (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jieqi) and solstices (Fung Yu-lan, A History of Chinese Philosophy, Vol. II, p. 106-109). When you cast a hexagram you first look in the calendar which hexagram governs the day that you threw the hexagram. In the texts from these hexagrams you look for the hexagram that you threw (see He Shi-qiang, Jing Fang Yizhan Shuyu Xiangjie, ISBN 9627943649, p. 2/6 - 2/13). If Linda threw the hexagram today then the hexagram she threw would be governed by hexagram 3 (it is the 2nd day of the 23rd jieqi, xiaohan, which belongs to hexagram 3), and she would therefore have to look for combination 3-30 in the Yilin:

yin changes to yang
woman changes to man
the Way of (proper) government is to achieve communication
the lord and the minister have to share their obligations.

I found the last character, cheng, difficult to translate. It has meanings like 'to receive; to inherit; to succeed (another in a task, etc.); 'to undertake; to make it one's responsibility'; 'to continue; to carry on'; 'to hold; to contain; to support; to bear', etc. But this was a quick translation, of course there is always room for improvement.

Harmen.

I gave 3-30 a go as well:

Yin changes, turning into yang,
woman changes, creating man.
The way to govern is to achieve free passing,
and ruler and servants serving each other.

(couldn't get the last 2 lines to rhyme.)

I have receive, accept, contain, support, hold, serve, service, offer, present for cheng.

My heartfelt gratitude, Ewald, for your answer, kindest regards, Hmesker, for the beautiful graphics and insight, thank you Void, for saying 'er what does it mean'. This divination took place on 6 January, not the 7th, can't recall the exact time but it was early evening.

Yours in sincerity,
Linda

6 January is also covered by hexagram 3, so no changes whatsoever, if that interests you. I think that poem is quite appropriate to your situation, or isn't it?

Best,

Harmen.

Hexagram 30 and Love Relationship

Question to Harmen:
I joined today this site. I have enjoyed the shared readings. I have been reconnecting with a long time lover after some time of separation. We have always have a very intense relationship, full of passion and love but also of conflict, mainly due to ego problems of both, as well as difficult communication since we live apart in different countries, cultures and languages. We are very different but many times I see him as my mirror and recognize that many things I don't like in him, are the same I don't like in me. Even though our hardships, we have managed to continue persevering in our own spiritual growth which in addition to our self benefit, will also increase the possibility of being able to be together again.
I consulted today April 20 in the morning, Eastern Standard Time if there was hope for us in being able to build a harmonic and loving relationship. The answer was Hexagram 30, unchanging.
I find useful to explore the technique of relating to other hexagram associated with the day of my consultation, and I want to know where to fin this information.
Thanks in advice for your light and support.

Yes, but there is a strong need for you to change your attitude to one of meekness and dependency.

Thank you Willowfox.
In the case of those who work with the calendar which links the hexagrams to the 24 jieqi and solstices, the correct date and hour of my consultation to the Iching was April 19, 2008 at 7:30 pm EST

Hi Leonor,

You wrote commented in my weblog on the entry about the Yilin calendar for 2007:

I consulted the Iching to ask if there was hope for my love relationship on April 21, 2008 in Caracas, Venezuela, EST 7:30 pm.and got as an answer the Hexagram 30, unchanging. I want to know which is the hexagram I must read according to the date of consultation.
....and you wanted to know if I have a Yilin calendar for 2008. I haven't, but the jieqi dates for 2008 are pretty much the same as in 2007, so I looked up which poem from the Yilin is appropriate for you. 21st of April is covered by hexagram 18. The Yilin verse (蠱之離, H18 it's H30) for this combination is (alternative characters from different versions between brackets; not used in the translation):

鴻雁南飛
隨時(陽)休息
轉送(逐)天和
千里(歲)不衰。

The swan goose flies South,
When necessary it takes a rest.
(Thus) it transmits the pattern of nature
For a thousand li it does not wane.

This is the poem for 21st of April. But here on the forum you first write that you consulted the Yi on 20 April, then you write that you consulted it on 19 April. In Shangdi's name, which date is it??

Just to bug Frank Kegan... :D

That date and time would come up to 24.4, using the Plum Blossom method (if we can imagine Shao Yong using a Gregorian Calendar in the 11th century, more than 500 years before Gregory XIII stamped the papal bull into law, that is... :D)

Ah. Well, that date is also covered by hexagram 18, so nothing really changes. :) The poem that I mentioned is the one which is appropriate for your consultation.

Thanks to you all. I have only received feedback on my question from Willowfox. Can you guys, give your opinion too? Herman, I know you say unchanging hexagrams are total conflict and that they provide a negative response ?? Reality is that my relationship has been this way, but I have the intention to work differently on it.

I thought I gave you what you asked for. You said that you "find useful to explore the technique of relating to other hexagram associated with the day of my consultation, and I want to know where to fin this information". Then you wrote to me privately for information about the Yilin calendar, asking which hexagram was appropriate according to this system, and pointed me to this thread on the forum. Since the Yilin contains a poem for every hexagram combination I gave you the poem which corresponds to your situation. Willowfox gave you her interpretation of the Yi's answer, but you did not ask for that.

Herman, I know you say unchanging hexagrams are total conflict and that they provide a negative response ??
I don't know to which utterance you are referring, but as far as my memory goes I have never said that.

Dear Harmen:
I reviewed again my original question and yes, you are right in that it was not clear in my request in that I wanted the interpretation of Hex 30 as well as the poem and interpretation for the "related hexagram to the date of consultation. Sorry for the confusion, I am new in the site but appreciate all your answers.
I also reviewed the threads and found that it other Member who mentioned unchanging hexagrams as total conflict. This is the thread>:

attraction is turned into something enduring
when gentle feelings are allowed expression
when the gauntlet of responsibility is taken up
and no sentiment or hestance clouds truth
